With no one excelling in the Mets' left-handed relief competition. Below will have an opportunity to fill that spot. He is not on a major-league deal, but manager Terry Collins plans to utilize him in games.

Below spent the 2014 campaign with the Tigers' Triple-A Toledo affiliate, posting a 3.70 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 62:41 K:BB over 116.2 innings. The left-hander has put up a 4.27 ERA and 1.33 WHIP in parts of three seasons at the major league level (78 innings).

He was scheduled to see the doctor on Monday, though the results of that visit aren't available. A non-roster invitee, Below was likely slated for Triple-A even if he wasn't injured.
