Storen allowed three runs on four hits, including a home run, in Tuesday's lopsided loss to the White Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Although manager John Gibbons said he doesn't put "much stock" in low-leverage outings like Tuesday's, the performance is still disconcerting. Storen has been downright terrible through nine appearances with his new team, sporting an ugly 9.39 ERA and 1.83 WHIP in 7.2 innings. Entering the season, there were talks of the right-hander possibly stealing the closers job from Roberto Osuna, but that circumstance appears to be out of the question at this point. Even in a set-up role, Storen could be a valuable asset for racking up holds, however it's hard to believe that Gibbons will continue to bestow that opportunity to him unless a turnaround happens quickly.

With Roberto Osuna unavailable, Storen managed a save despite allowing two runs on three hits against the Red Sox on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Storen has had a rough go of things this season, allowing runs in three of his six relief appearances. For the year his ERA sits at 8.44 and his WHIP at 1.69. With Osuna pitching well, Storen won't be in line for many saves so long as Osuna is healthy.

Storen wasn't available in Thursday's loss to the Rays after he either pitched or warmed up in Toronto's first three games of the season, MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
For the second consecutive game, Toronto's relievers coughed up a lead in the eighth inning. The eighth inning typically belongs to right-hander Drew Storen, but he was noticeably absent during the series finale, but it was only for maintenance purposes. Expect to see the 28-year-old right-hander out there the next time a hold opportunity arises.

Storen will act as the team's closer Tuesday against the Rays, Barry Davis of Sportsnet reports.
EDGE Analysis
Roberto Osuna has been called upon in each of the club's first two games, but they'll look to give him a day off so Storen will slot into the closer role. These situations could arise occasionally, but he'll mainly serve as Toronto's setup man.

Storen has the lost the closer role to Roberto Osuna to begin the season, Brendan Kennedy of the Toronto Star reports.
EDGE Analysis
With five consecutive scoreless innings after he allowed a solo homer in his spring debut, Storen did very little to hurt his chances of getting the job in Grapefruit League play. Jays manager John Gibbons cited familiarity with Osuna as part of the reason for the decision. Nevertheless, Storen is expected to open the season as a setup man for Osuna, and he'd likely be the replacement for him if the young closer succumbs to injury or a prolonged period of struggles at some point in 2016.

Manager John Gibbons is expected to name a closer Wednesday, the Toronto Star reports.
EDGE Analysis
The skipper did not provide any hints Tuesday, saying "we're familiar with [Roberto Osuna] and we like everything we've seen out of [Storen]." Toronto gave up a starting outfielder in Ben Revere to bring Storen in from Washington, and "rave reviews" from teammates and coaches early in spring training led to speculation that he was the favorite for the closer job out of camp. Storen has thrived in save situations so far in his career, posting a 2.29 ERA as opposed to a 3.84 ERA in non-save situations.

Storen is likely the leading candidate for the closer job, according to Gregor Chisholm of MLB.com.
EDGE Analysis
Officially, the Blue Jays are keeping an open competition for the ninth-inning role with both Storen and Roberto Osuna in the mix. And while this should be taken as little more than speculation, Chisholm is following the team in Florida and seems to have an early read on the situation. Storen is throwing bullpen sessions and is said to be receiving "rave reviews" from his new teammates and coaches.

Storen will compete for the closer job, but general manager Ross Atkins said the team doesn't expect to choose a closer until midway through Spring Training if not later, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet reports.
EDGE Analysis
After bringing in Storen over the offseason, he will compete with Roberto Osuna for the closer job. After Osuna saved 20 games for the Blue Jays last season, they still sought to improve their pen by bringing in Storen, who saved 29 games last season and saved 43 in 2011. This good be a lengthy battle between the two as both have the stuff and experience to close for the Jays, who should be considered the front-runners for the AL East.

Storen agreed to a one-year, $8.375 million deal with the Blue Jays on Friday, avoiding arbitration, MLB Network's Jon Heyman reports.
EDGE Analysis
Saves pay, and Storen has 95 saves over the past six seasons to go with a 3.02 ERA over that span. He figures to handle the ninth inning duties for the Blue Jays in 2016, making him one of the top-15 closers to target in drafts this year.

The Nationals traded Storen to the Blue Jays on Friday in exchange for Ben Revere, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Nationals have reportedly been looking for a trade partner for Storen, and they finally found one in the Blue Jays, who were willing to part with one of their regular outfielders. Storen's numbers at the end of the 2015 season don't look as good as those as the ones he posted the previous year, but he dominated in the closer's role before the Nationals decided to acquire Jonathan Papelbon in late July. Roberto Osuna performed well in the closer's role last year for the Blue Jays, but Storen now seems like the favorite to fill the role for the club when the 2016 season begins.
