Veal was released by the Braves on Monday after being designated for assignment last week, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports. Veal struggled mightily in five appearances with the Braves this season, giving up seven earned runs in 4.1 innings (14.54 ERA) and posting a 2.31 WHIP. He appeared in 74 big league games between 2012 and 2013, but he has struggled to find much success since. He did pitch well in the minors this season (16 scoreless innings), so he figures to get a look elsewhere.

Veal was designated for assignment Monday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. Veal made five appearances for the Braves, giving up seven earned runs in just 4.1 innings. With those numbers, his demotion back to Triple-A was no real surprise. He was outstanding in Triple-A earlier before being called up and he will try to regain that form upon his return to Gwinnett.

Veal will be recalled for Tuesday's game to fill a vacant roster spot, MLB.com's Mark Bowman reports. After the Braves' trade with the Dodgers there was room for a reliever to be added to the 25-man roster and Veal will get the call. He was recently designated for assignment, so the Braves obviously don't think that highly of him, but he should offer bullpen depth in the short term.

Veal was designated for assignment by the Braves on Tuesday. With Ian Thomas sent down last week and Veal now bumped from the 40-man roster, the Braves are left with Luis Avilan as their only southpaw in the bullpen. Veal made three appearances in the five days he was with the major league team, allowing four runs on three hits -- including two home runs -- and two walks with two strikeouts over 3.1 innings.

Veal's contract was purchased from Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday. John Cornely was optioned to Gwinnett so the Braves needed to bring up an arm to replace him in the bullpen. Veal, a 30-year-old southpaw, has 11 strikeouts and has not allowed a run in 8.2 innings so far at Triple-A.

Veal has been reassigned to minor league camp by the Braves. Previously in the mix as a non-roster invite, Veal will have to pitch at Triple-A Gwinnett to begin the season if he wants to remains in the mix for the Braves.

Veal signed a minor league contract with the Braves on Monday. Veal's contract will include an invitation to spring training. The 30-year-old pitched in seven games with the White Sox last season, allowing five earned runs over on six hits over six innings. He has a history of being a starter, and could be a candidate for the no. 5 spot in the rotation with a strong spring training.

White Sox recall LHP Donnie Veal from Triple-A Charlotte. With Matt Thornton getting dealt to the Red Sox, there is a clear opening for a left-handed reliever on the roster, and Veal is the best in-house option that the White Sox have. The 28-year-old has posted an 8.59 ERA and 2.73 WHIP in 7 1/3 innings with the White Sox this season.
