Pirates signed LHP Daniel Schlereth to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. Not so long ago, the son of ESPN NFL analyst Mark Schlereth was a prized prospect in both Arizona and Detroit. Tendinitis in his throwing shoulder began wreaking havoc on his career in 2012 and the Tigers pulled the plug on Schlereth last winter. The 27-year-old was only healthy enough to complete 11 innings for Triple-A Norfolk (Orioles) in 2013, though he only allowed one earned run in those 12 relief appearances.

According to Thomas Harding of MLB.com, the Rockies are interested in free agent left-hander Daniel Schlereth. Schlereth, who wasn't tendered a contract by the Tigers, was limited to just six appearances in 2012 before being shut down with shoulder tendinitis. While he owns a live arm, he's always battled bouts of wildness, owning a career 1.57 WHIP and 91/61 K/BB ratio over 93 innings.

The Tigers will not tender Daniel Schlereth a contract. It's surprising given that Schlereth wasn't eligible for salary arbitration, but they must be really concerned about his shoulder. Schlereth missed most of 2012 while dealing with shoulder tendinitis and posted a 10.29 ERA in seven innings when he was healthy.

Daniel Schlereth (shoulder) has resumed throwing bullpen sessions. Schlereth was placed on the disabled list in late April due to left shoulder tendinitis. The southpaw was given the option of surgery to repair damage, but it appears that therapy has done the job. There's no timetable for his return, though.

AN MRI taken Wednesday on Daniel Schlereth's ailing left shoulder showed no structural damage. Good news. Schlereth is already performing range of motion exercises and should soon be cleared to resume throwing. He's been on the disabled list since late April.

Daniel Schlereth will be examined by Dr. Tom Noonan in Colorado after pain in his left shoulder forced him to cut short a bullpen session last Friday. Schlereth was placed on the DL a week ago due to shoulder tendinitis, but the Tigers want to see if anything else is going on. "It was supposed to have been a 30-pitch bullpen session," Tigers head trainer Kevin Rand said. "It was cut at 15. Dr. Noonan's going to give a follow-up exam and offer a second opinion." We'll update Schlereth's status when more is known.
