Poteet was returned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre by the Yankees on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Poteet was up as the 27th man for a doubleheader versus the Guardians and dazzled as the starter of the second game, tossing six innings of one-run ball with four strikeouts. It was his first outing in the majors since July of 2022, and he surely earned another look down the line, but for now Poteet will rejoin the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre rotation.

The Yankees added Poteet to their roster to start the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against Cleveland.
EDGE Analysis
Poteet has started two games at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this year, surrendering just two runs through 8.1 innings while posting a 12:2 K:BB. He will almost certainly return to Triple-A after his spot start Saturday.

Poteet will be called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to start Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader at Cleveland, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Saturday's contest was postponed due to inclement weather, which will afford Poteet the opportunity to make a spot start in Saturday's twin bill. The right-hander has pitched well in two starts for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season with two runs allowed and a 12:2 K:BB over 8.1 innings. Poteet should serve as the 27th player for the doubleheader, which likely means he'll promptly be sent back to Triple-A.

The Yankees optioned Poteet to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander was an outside candidate for New York's rotation after Gerrit Cole went down with an elbow injury, but Luis Gil ended up winning the job. Poteet pitched well in camp with a 2.35 ERA and 7:1 K:BB over 7.2 innings and could fill a bullpen role later on for the Yankees if he gets off to a strong start at Triple-A.

Poteet is a candidate to join the Yankees' Opening Day rotation with Gerrit Cole (elbow) expected to be sidelined for 1-to-2 months to begin the season, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Luke Weaver (neck) looks to be the top candidate to fill the fifth opening in the rotation in the wake of Cole's injury, provided Weaver can overcome the neck issue that caused him to be scratched from his most recent Grapefruit League start Tuesday. If Weaver isn't able to get fully stretched out for Opening Day, however, Poteet may be next in line to fill the rotation vacancy. Signed to a one-year, $750,000 deal in January, Poteet has impressed through his first three spring outings, striking out seven and walking one over 5.2 scoreless frames while holding opposing hitters to a .158 average. Beyond Weaver and Poteet, Will Warren, Cody Morris and Luis Gil are other candidates for the fifth rotation spot.

Poteet signed a one-year, $750,000 contract with the Yankees on Thursday, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
EDGE Analysis
Poteet had Tommy John surgery in August of 2022, making it back last year for one late-season appearance with Triple-A Omaha in the Royals organization. The 29-year-old holds a career 4.45 ERA and 53:27 K:BB across 58.2 frames at the major-league level. Poteet has options remaining and seems likely to begin the 2024 season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Poteet was released by the Royals on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Poteet signed a minor-league deal last winter after having Tommy John surgery and made it back for one late-season appearance with Triple-A Omaha. The Royals have decided not to keep him through the offseason, so the 29-year-old righty will look for a new organization.

The Royals (elbow) signed Poteet to a minor-league contract Thursday, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports.
EDGE Analysis
Kansas City takes a shot on Poteet, who will miss all of 2023 after undergoing Tommy John surgery in August. With a 3.86 ERA in 12 appearances (two starts) and 28 innings last season, the righty could return to be an effective middle-innings reliever at a cheap price for the Royals once he's recovered.

Poteet (elbow) was activated off the 60-day injured list and outrighted to Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Poteet may no longer be on the injured list, but he won't be healthy any time soon, as he underwent Tommy John surgery in August and will likely miss the entire 2023 season. No team wanted to claim him and wait out his recovery, so he'll continue to rehab as a member of the Marlins' organization.

Poteet will undergo Tommy John surgery on his injured elbow, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's not clear when Poteet will undergo the procedure, but this news rules him out for the rest of this season and could prevent him from pitching at all in 2023.
