Brian Schneider has retired from baseball. "It hasn't been an easy decision, but there are a lot of factors," Schneider said. "You don't want to retire, but you think of your family and I think more than anything it's physically how you feel." The 36-year-old will finish his 13-year career with a .247/.320/.369 batting line, 67 homers and 387 RBI.

Brian Schneider (hamstring, ankle) is not expected to return this season. Schneider was cleared for a rehab assignment at High-A Clearwater, but remains unlikely to be added to the Phillies' roster. Erik Kratz will continue to get an extended look down the stretch.

Brian Schneider left the nightcap of Sunday's doubleheader against the Rays with a right ankle sprain after a collision at home plate. Sean Rodriguez slammed into Schneider in the sixth. Schneider was slow to rise, tried to stay in the game, but ultimately took himself out one pitch later. Carlos Ruiz finished the game behind the dish.
