Matusz was released by the Diamondbacks last week, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
EDGE Analysis
Matusz appeared in 11 games for Triple-A Reno, compiling a 6.11 ERA and 13:5 K:BB over 17.2 innings. The 30-year-old, who made eight appearances at the big-league level with the Orioles and Cubs a season ago, will aim to land another minor-league deal with a new organization.

Matusz was reassigned to minor league camp Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Matusz endured a tumultuous 2016 with a back injury and poor performance upon returning. Of course, the left-hander performed well as a late-innings reliever for the Orioles, so if he can revisit his past success, Arizona could give him another crack at a big-league role in 2017.

Matusz signed a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks on Monday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
After three years of quality work in a setup role for the Orioles, the bottom fell out for Matusz in 2016. The 30-year-old opened last season on the DL while nursing a back injury and didn't look the same upon returning, serving up 14 runs over a combined nine innings at the big-league level with the Orioles and Cubs. Assuming he enters spring training in better health, Matusz could return to form and claim a 40-man roster spot for the Diamondbacks, who boast one of the majors' weaker bullpens.

Matusz elected free agency Thursday after being outrighted from the Cubs' 40-man roster, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran lefty will look to latch on with another club, likely in a bullpen role after spending time in the Orioles and Cubs organizations in 2016. Thus far, he's failed to match last season's success, which included a 56:20 K:BB over 49 innings along with a 2.94 ERA and 1.18 WHIP for Baltimore.

A night after getting roughed up by the Mariners in his first start, Matusz has been designated for assignment by the Cubs, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Matusz will now go through the waiver process. If unclaimed, the Cubs will outright him to Triple-A Iowa. In the minors in 2016, Matusz owns a 3.58 ERA with 39 strikeouts in 27.2 innings, spending time with both the Orioles and the Cubs.

Matusz didn't factor into the decision Sunday versus the Mariners, giving up six earned runs on six hits and two walks over three innings. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
All six of the runs given up by Matusz came on a trio of two-run homers over each of the first three innings. Nelson Cruz, Robinson Cano and Dae-Ho Lee all did the honors, chasing the 29-year-old after just 57 pitches. The southpaw had turned in two strong efforts for Triple-A Iowa, but his performance Sunday bore no resemblance to those outings. He'll look to rebound when he takes on the A's next Sunday.

Matusz's contract was selected from Triple-A Iowa and he will start the evening's game against the Mariners.
EDGE Analysis
The left-handed Matusz last pitched in the majors earlier this season as a reliever for the Orioles. After a brief stay in Atlanta via trade, he was designated for assignment and eventually signed a minor league contract with the Cubs. Following two strong starts for Triple-A Iowa, he will now make his first major league start since 2012. The Cubs optioned Justin Grimm to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Matusz will start Sunday's game against the Mariners, Bruce Levine of 670 The Score reports.
EDGE Analysis
As expected, Matusz will come up from Triple-A to make a spot start Saturday opposite Seattle's Felix Hernandez. The 29-year-old lefty has spent the bulk of the year in the minors, where he holds a cumulative 3.58 ERA across 10 appearances (five starts) at the Rookie, High-A, Double-A and Triple-A levels. In a corresponding move, the Cubs have optioned Justin Grimm to Triple-A Iowa.

Matusz is the likely starter for the Cubs matchup against Seattle on Sunday, Bruce Levine of WSCR-AM reports.
EDGE Analysis
Matusz was scratched from his Triple-A Iowa start on Friday in what could be a preliminary move before a possible call up. The 29-year-old hurler recently made two starts for the Triple-A affiliate, giving up two earned runs over a combined 9.1 innings. He'd match up with Seattle's Felix Hernandez if he indeed does get the promotion before Sunday's game.

Matusz was activated from Triple-A Iowa's DL and was transferred to Double-A Tennessee on Tuesday, The Smokies Radio Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
Matusz made two rehab starts for the AZL Cubs, Chicago's Rookie Ball affiliate, and tossed five scoreless innings while only allowing one hit and one walk. The 29-year-old will now head to Double-A Tennessee where he'll continue the 2016 campaign.
