Callaspo is not in the lineup Sunday against the Phillies, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.

Callaspo had found himself in the starting lineup for three straight games prior to taking a seat for Saturday's contest. He'll now sit his second straight, but look for the 32-year-old switch-hitter to be used off the bench if the need for a pinch hitter arises.

Callaspo will start at second base and bat second Friday against the Phillies.

Callaspo will spell Jace Peterson at second base for what will be his third straight start. He will also bat in the two-hole, a spot in which Callaspo has had little success to this point (4-for-28), between Eric Young Jr. and Nick Markakis. The 32-year-old appears in line to continue seeing semi-regular time between second base and third.

Callaspo is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.

Callaspo and Chris Johnson have shared the third-base duties early this season, but neither of them will start there Wednesday with Phil Gosselin manning the hot corner. Expect the time share at third base to continue.

Callaspo collected two hits in Thursday's game against the Pirates and is now 8-for-his-last-22 with no strikeouts in Grapefruit League play. "I think he's been terrific," manager Fredi Gonzalez told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "His last four or five games is the Callaspo we wanted. With those veteran guys, you've got to believe the back of their baseball cards."

After starting the spring 3-for-26 with no walks and one RBI, Callaspo has picked it up of late, with three multi-hit efforts in his last six games. He's still looking for his first walk of the spring, but Callaspo has only struck out once in 47 at-bats. It still appears Jace Peterson has a firm leg up in the competition for the second base job, meaning Callaspo probably won't play everyday to start the year, but Callaspo seems to be slowly working himself back into shape and could eventually eat into Chris Johnson's playing time at third.

Callaspo is batting just .115 (3-for-26) with no walks and one RBI through nine spring games.

Callaspo arrived to camp clearly out of condition, sparking concern among Braves officials regarding the team's second base situation, and the 31-year-old has done little to ease those concerns in spring games. Meanwhile, trade acquisition Jace Peterson has impressed thus far and may have the leg up in the competition for playing time at the keystone as of now. That said, Callaspo's $3 million contract he signed in the offseason is guaranteed, so he figures to at least open the year in a utility role.

Callaspo is expected to see significant playing time at third base during spring training, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. It sounds like manager Fredi Gonzalez is kicking around the idea of having Callaspo and Chris Johnson share time at the hot corner, which could open up playing time at the keystone for Phil Gosselin, Kelly Johnson and/or Jace Peterson. Gonzalez did not rule Callaspo out of the mix at second base, but this new uncertainty surrounding his playing time pretty much eliminates any appeal Callaspo had in deeper NL-only leagues for now. Regardless of who opens the year at second, there's a good chance they'll be supplanted by Jose Peraza at some point.

Callaspo has agreed to a deal with the Braves, pending a physical, MLB Network Radio reports.

Coming off of a very disappointing 2014 campaign with the A's, Callaspo will offer the Braves depth around the infield -- particularly at second base, where a combination of Phil Gosselin and Jose Peraza were previously positioned to handle the bulk of the playing time. As the roster is presently constructed, Callaspo may emerge to be the Braves' starting second baseman on Opening Day, but his hold on that job would likely be tenuous.

Callaspo is out of the lineup Saturday against the Astros.

He's one of the least fantasy-relevant semi-everyday players in the American League. He's slashing with .233/.295/.300 with four home runs and zero steals in 114 games this season. Eric Sogard will start at the keystone Saturday.

With Callaspo in the midst of a 1-for-29 skid at the dish over his last eight starts, he'll find himself on the bench. Eric Sogard enters the lineup in his place.
