Marlins released OF Aaron Rowand. Rowand has looked terrible this spring, batting just .128 (6-for-47) with one extra-base hit and eight strikeouts, so this was an expected move. One wonders if the 34-year-old will call it a career at this point.

Marlins signed OF Aaron Rowand to a minor league contract. It was first reported by FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal. Rowand, 34, batted .233/.274/.347 with four home runs, 21 RBI and a .621 OPS over 351 plate appearances this past season before being released by the Giants in September. He'll try to win a job as a reserve outfielder during spring training.

Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com reports that Aaron Rowand's agents have talked to the White Sox about the outfielder returning to Chicago. Rowand evidently is interested in returning to his old stomping grounds, as his agents already talked to the Phillies but were rebuffed. Rowand might very well be a fit as an extra outfielder with the Sox, but he might have to settle for a minor league deal.

Giants placed OF Aaron Rowand on release waivers. The Giants found no interest from opposing teams after designating Rowand for assignment in late August. He batted just .233/.274/.347 in 108 games this season with San Francisco and could struggle to find a gig elsewhere when he becomes a free agent Monday.

FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi reports that the Giants are "not optimistic" about trading Aaron Rowand prior to September 1. He would have to land somewhere before the end of Wednesday in order to be eligible for that team's postseason roster. It's no surprise, as Rowand is due what's left of his $13 million salary for this season, as well as another $12 million next year. He can still be a useful bench player and will likely be scooped up by someone after the Giants likely release him.

Aaron Rowand (intercostal) is available Wednesday. Rowand was held out of Tuesday's lineup due to a strained intercostal muscle and is not in the Giants' initial batting order Wednesday. But he can help off the bench.

Aaron Rowand (arm) is in Thursday's lineup against the Twins. Rowand was hit by a pitch on his arm during Wednesday's game, but X-rays came back negative. He'll bat leadoff and play center field Thursday against left-hander Brian Duensing.
