Chara was probably invited so that he could participate in the hardest shot competition. While it would be great to see how hard Chara can still shoot the puck, he is thinking about the Islanders and their playoff push with this decision. Chara is well aware that the Isles will pretty much be playing every other day once play resumes after the All-Star break and will take the four days off rather than travel to the game.
