General manager Ron Hextall would be surprised if Simmonds (pelvis) didn't play in Saturday's preseason finale against the Bruins, Bill Meltzer of NHL.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Simmonds has yet to crack the lineup for a preseason contest as he continues to recover from offseason surgery, but it sounds like he should get a chance to see game action prior to the Flyers' Oct. 4 season opener against Vegas. The 30-year-old power forward only notched 24 goals and 46 points last campaign, his lowest total since the 2012-13 season, so he'll be looking to bounce back in a big way before hitting the market as an unrestricted free agent next offseason.

Simmonds (pelvis) is determined to be 100-percent healthy for training camp, NHL.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Philadelphia's top-six power winger dealt with a broken ankle, pulled groin, torn ligament in his thumb, and he even tore his pelvis while training for the 2017-18 campaign. Remarkably, Simmonds only missed seven games last year, potting 24 goals to complement 22 helpers and 129 hits through 18:05 of average ice time. He was clearly spent by the time the playoffs rolled around and only saw 14:36 through six games against the Penguins, but fantasy owners shouldn't discount Simmonds too much, as he's an excellent source of points -- both at even strength and on special teams.

Simmonds disclosed that he finished the season with a torn pelvis, broken ankle, torn ligament in his thumb, and a pulled groin, Tom Dougherty of NBC Sports Philly reports.

EDGE Analysis

Simmonds tore his pelvis prior to this season's training camp, though he didn't elaborate on how long he'd been dealing with his other injuries. Always a fiery, in-your-face type of player, it's remarkable that Simmonds maintained this style while he was essentially a walking case study in sports-related injuries. That isn't to say that his play didn't suffer, though, as he had his lowest 82-game season goal and point totals -- 24 and 46, respectively -- since 2010-11, his final season as a King. A decision still needs to be made regarding whether Simmonds' hip injury requires surgery, but once healthy again, we should see his production return to the levels we've become accustomed to seeing.

Simmonds recorded an assist and four hits over a season-low 10:38 of ice time Friday, as the Flyers defeated the Penguins 4-2 in Game 5.

EDGE Analysis

Pushed down to a bottom-six role in the postseason, Simmonds must work very efficiently to produce fantasy-friendly numbers. Presumably, his focus is primarily on winning hockey games, as we haven't heard of any complaints from No. 17 concerning his reduced playing time. Simmonds has two helpers, six PIM and 11 missed shot attempts in the conference quarterfinals.

Simmonds scored two goals on six shots in a 6-3 win over the Capitals on Sunday.

EDGE Analysis

Simmonds was playing well before he miss seven games with an injury, and it seems like he has regained that form. Over his last five games he's notched six points. While it may be hard for the winger to hit the 30-goal mark for the third season in a row, he has 23, he's still provided fantasy owners with another solid campaign.

Simmonds picked up two assists while adding three shots, three hits, two blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Hurricanes.

EDGE Analysis

The rugged winger is starting to find his groove, scoring a goal and four points over the last four games with 11 shots and six hits. Simmonds now has 41 points in 65 games on the season, hitting the 40-point plateau for the fifth straight season and the seventh time in his career.

Simmonds failed to score and was saddled with a minus-4 rating in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to the Penguins.

EDGE Analysis

He did contribute three shots and two hits, but it was a mostly miserable return to action for Simmonds after he missed seven games with an upper-body injury. The 29-year-old had been on a bit of a roll prior to getting hurt, scoring four goals and eight points in his previous 10 games, but the Flyers will need him to return to form quickly as they try to hang onto a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Simmonds (upper body) practiced with the team Tuesday and is expected to rejoin the lineup Wednesday against the Penguins.

EDGE Analysis

Simmonds has missed the Flyers' last seven contests because of the upper-body ailment, but the veteran winger appears set to rejoin a Flyers club jostling for playoff positioning. His activation from injured reserve is still forthcoming, but Simmonds should immediately retake his top-six role and regain his spot on the power play.

Per general manager Ron Hextall, Simmonds (upper body) resumed skating Wednesday and is "about 10 days away from playing," Sam Carchidi of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

EDGE Analysis

Simmonds is right on track with his recovery, as he was given a recovery timetable of 2-to-3 weeks when he sustained his upper-body injury during a fight with New York's Tony DeAngelo on Feb. 18. The power forward's return to the ice Wednesday is certainly a step in the right direction, but he'll likely need to log several full practices with his teammates before getting back into game action.

Simmonds (upper body) has surfaced on injured reserve, per the NHL's official media site.

EDGE Analysis

Barring a miraculous turnaround, Simmonds will be out until mid-March with his upper-body malady. We've reached the point in the fantasy season where you probably know whether you need that extra push for a playoff spot, and it doesn't look like Simmonds will be that catalyst due to his current affliction -- at least not right away.
