It was Bertuzzi's first multigoal game since Oct. 14, 2021 when he was with the Red Wings. Plus it came on his 29th birthday. Two of the snipes came on the power play; his third goal won the game. Bertuzzi also got himself in the record books as the first player in Maple Leafs history to score a hat trick on his birthday. It was a great night for the edgy winger, but there's not much to his game from a fantasy perspective. He has 110 shots and 64 hits to go with just 10 goals and 16 assists in 56 games. Bertuzzi is built for the postseason, not the regular one, at least at this point in his career.

Bertuzzi helped out on the first of Max Domi's goals. The 28-year-old Bertuzzi has picked up three points over nine outings in February despite seeing steady middle-six minutes. Overall, the winger has 23 points, 106 shots on net, 63 hits, 32 blocked shots and an even plus-minus rating over 55 appearances.

Bertuzzi missed Wednesday's game versus the Jets as his wife gave birth to their child. He is ready to return as the Maple Leafs head to Winnipeg to play the second half of a home-and-away series. Bertuzzi has been a bit of a disappointment this season after signing a one-year contract in the offseason, scoring only six goals while adding 14 assists in 45 games.

Bertuzzi (personal) was placed on the non-roster list Tuesday, according to Jonas Siegel of The Athletic.

The Maple Leafs activated Ryan Reaves (lower body) from injured reserve in a corresponding move. Bertuzzi, who is away from the team to be with his wife to await the birth of their child, probably won't be available to play Wednesday against Winnipeg. Bertuzzi should be considered a question mark heading into Wednesday's matchup with Winnipeg. The winger is currently stuck in a 13-game goal drought during which he registered just 17 shots, though he did chip in six assists along the way. If Bertuzzi is available against the Jets, he should retake his place in a top-six role.

Bertuzzi has gotten his offense on track lately with seven points over his last eight appearances. He's up to six goals, 10 helpers, 71 shots on net, 35 hits, 19 blocked shots, 18 PIM and a plus-6 rating through 35 appearances, mainly filling a middle-six role.

EDGE Analysis

It's been a long season for Bertuzzi, who has struggled offensively in Toronto. The points were his first in nine games. Bertuzzi has five goals, seven assists, 59 shots and 28 hits in 28 games this season. He hasn't been able to offer much fantasy value despite playing regularly as a top-six forward for the Maple Leafs, but games like this are a good reminder that he is capable of contributing much more.

He has found a home on the Leafs second line with William Nylander and Tavares, and he looks more comfortable with each passing game. Bert brings some fantasy value, but not as much as one would think. His edgy game is tailor made for the postseason, but he doesn't ring up the number of hits or PIM as you would think. His fantasy merit will rise if Bertuzzi can grow his chemistry with Willie and JT and start to convert more 5v5.
