The Minnesota Wild might still buy out Tom Gilbert. They need to make a decision soon though, as the compliance buyout window closes Thursday. Buying out Gilbert would save the Wild $4 million in cap space for the 2013-14 campaign. Given that they're flirting with the cap ceiling as is, that extra breathing room would be very helpful.

The Minnesota Wild would like to trade defenseman Tom Gilbert. The puck-moving defenseman could be a useful addition to the third pairing for a number of teams, although his salary will make him difficult to move. If the team is unable to trade him there's a possibility a compliance buyout is used to create salary cap space for the club.

Tom Gilbert is expected to play Thursday after spending two games in the press box. Gilbert will skate alongside blueliner Justin Falk. Gilbert has three goals and nine points in 34 games this season. He also ranks second last on the team with a minus-13 rating.

Tom Gilbert was a healthy scratch for the first time in his career Sunday. Gilbert is minus-13 this season and that is one of the worse plus-minuses in the NHL as he ranks 790th. "Hopefully this is something that spurs him to get it back," Yeo said. "I'm not saying that he's been awful . but I think it was time to make a change. Hopefully this helps him get back on track." Brett Clark was also a healthy scratch as Nate Prosser and Justin Falk drew into the lineup.

Tom Gilbert returned to action on Saturday March 23.

Tom Gilbert (lower body) declared himself fit to play after Friday's practice. "I'm ready to go, ready to play," Gilbert said. "I have full confidence going into tomorrow." He has missed the team's last two games with a lower-body injury, but it looks like he'll play Saturday afternoon versus San Jose.

Tom Gilbert (illness) is questionable for Tuesday's encounter against Anaheim. Gilbert missed Sunday's game with the illness and did not practice Monday. He has three goals and eight points with a minus-eight rating this season.

Tom Gilbert will return to Edmonton for the first time since being dealt by the Oilers almost a year ago. Gilbert was dealt at the 2012 trade deadline for longtime Wild defenseman Nick Schultz who will also play his first game against his former teammates. It was a good trade for both teams as the Oilers needed a defensive defenseman (Schultz) while the Wild needed some help offensively (Gilbert). "You don't see these type of hockey trades very often," GM Chuck Fletcher said. "Nowadays, a lot of the trades you see are teams moving money or moving a veteran player for picks or prospects. In this case, two defensemen in the prime of their careers were traded for each other. It's a trade that's worked out well for both teams. Tom has played very, very well here. And from what I understand, Nick has played well in Edmonton. That's the way trades should work out. You trade quality for quality, and both teams got what they're looking for."
