DAILY PRIME - JANUARY 7, 2014: THE KING HAS LEFT THE BUILDING & MEE... primepucks.com Tue 1/7/14 8:42 AM
There was so much hope this season for the New York Rangers especially since they were getting an offensive-minded coach to go with their amazing elite goaltender and stunning defense. But sometimes hopes and dreams fade away much like Rangers G Henrik Lundqvist's game this season. The "King" had another disappointing game in net losing 4-3 in a shootout to the Rangers-West, or more widely known as the Columbus Blue Jackets. That leaves Lundqvist with a 12-16-3 record and an inflated 2.78 GAA and a.905 SP, numbers way below his career average. What are fantasy owners to do? Unless you have a capable replacement, the best thing to do is to hold on and have faith that the Rangers can put the pieces back together and Lundqvist can rebound for the 2nd half run....If it hasn't been accepted yet, it should be after last night's statement game by the NY Islander's John Tavares. Tavares should be mentioned among the elite forwards in the NHL. JT not only had a hat trick against the Dallas Stars, he also added 2 assists giving him 51 points in 43 games well on his way to hitting the century mark. In fact, we had projected Tavares to get 99 points this season in the 2013-2014 PrimePucks™ Fantasy Hockey Draft Guide. JT has arrived!
MORE FANTASY GAME NOTES: Carey Price (26/27 SV) and Tim Thomas (33/35 SV) put on a tremendous goaltending duel last night in Montreal with Price coming away with a 2-1 victory. The victory raised Price's record to 20-11-4 but more importantly is his metrics where he has a 2.22 GAA and a .928 SP, solid numbers for the Habs goaltender...If you are in need of goaltending and can put up with the occasional injury, Thomas can provide you with some decent production as the Florida Panthers have been playing much better of late....Nathan MacKinnon was on his way to a monster game before taking a puck to the ankle. No word yet on the extent of his injury but expect the talented rookie miss a few games. No need to further endanger this phenom's health ...Jean-Sebastien Giguere took a lot of heat from the Colorado Avalanche's Head Coach Patrick Roy after losing to the Calgary Flames last night 4-3. Jiggy has now lost 4 in a row, so don't expect him to get more playing time anytime soon.
