The 36-year-old German could earn a larger share of the netminding duties heading into the season if he continues to perform at peak level during training camp, though Jordan Binnington should have the inside track to the starting job.

Greiss is slated to be between the pipes versus Dallas on Monday.

Greiss logged 31 games with Detroit last season in which he went 10-15-1 with a career-worst 3.66 GAA and .891 save percentage. The netminder will likely enter the upcoming season as the No. 2 option but could challenge Jordan Binnington for the starting job if Binnington continues to struggle as he did last season -- he managed just 18 wins in 37 outings last year.

Greiss signed a one-year, $1.25 million contract with the Blues on Wednesday, Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic reports.

The 36-year-old netminder should perform better behind a better St. Louis defense in 2022-23, but Jordan Binnington will still undoubtedly get the bulk of the starts for the Blues.

Greiss allowed five goals on 23 shots through the first two periods of Saturday's 7-2 loss to the Penguins. He collected a goalie assist prior to being replaced by Alex Nedeljkovic.

That's a wrap for Detroit's home games, with Greiss posting a 6-5-0 record, 2.87 GAA and .909 save percentage through 13 games at Little Caesar's Arena. His road numbers (4.29 GAA/.878 save percentage) leave a lot to be desired, but the Red Wings still benefited from his veteran presence in order to keep Nedeljkovic -- who's appeared in 57 games -- from shutting down physically.

Greiss will guard the home goal during Saturday's matchup with Pittsburgh, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Greiss played well in his last start Tuesday versus Tampa Bay, stopping 38 of 41 shots en route to a 4-3 victory. He'll try to secure a second straight win in a home matchup with a Penguins team that's averaging 3.00 goals per game on the road this campaign, 13th in the NHL.

EDGE Analysis

The veteran netminder reached 10 wins on the season, but it didn't come easy as Greiss squandered a 3-1 second-period lead, only for Jakub Vrana to fire home the game-winner early in the third. Greiss has had a rough season but has turned things around in April, going 2-3-0 over five starts with a 2.62 GAA and .926 save percentage.

Greiss will start Tuesday in Tampa Bay, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.

EDGE Analysis

Greiss has just one win in 11 games over a 1-7-0 stretch since Feb. 23. His ratios have been terrible during that span, as well (4.42 GAA, .874 save percentage), so it would be wise to steer clear of Greiss if possible in this one against an always-dangerous Lightning offense.

Greiss turned aside 33 shots in Saturday's 4-0 loss to the Rangers.

New York out-shot Detroit 37-20 and scored in every period, with the Red Wings giving Greiss little help at either end of the ice. The veteran netminder has only one win in the last two months, going 1-7-0 over his last 11 appearances, and on the season he's saddled with a 3.58 GAA and ,892 save percentage.

Greiss will patrol the crease during Saturday's road game versus the Rangers.

EDGE Analysis

Greiss played well in his last start Tuesday against the Senators, stopping 28 of 30 shots, but he ultimately came away with a loss due to a lack of goal support from his teammates. He'll try to get back in the win column in a tough road matchup with a Rangers team that's 24-8-4 at home this season.

Greiss made 28 saves in a 4-1 loss to Ottawa on Tuesday. He allowed two goals.

EDGE Analysis

Austin Watson beat him from the high slot at the end of the first period and then Drake Batherson tipped a point shot at 15:32 of the second. Greiss was sharp Tuesday, but is an ugly 1-6-0 in his last eight starts with three early exits. The 36-year-old is not a viable fantasy option. Period.
