Goalie Start: Mason is the Flyers projected starter tomorrow. dailyfaceoff.com Mon 10/14/13 7:56 PM
Mason allowed two goals on 31 shots in a 2-1 loss to the Coyotes on Friday. He has played very well, but the Flyers are having a tough time scoring. He was given the night off on Saturday so he figures to be back in the cage tomorrow vs. Vancouver. His 2.02 GAA and .935 SV% have the scales tipping in his favour for the Flyers starting gig.
Goalie Start: Mason will start for the Flyers. dailyfaceoff.com Fri 10/11/13 2:56 PM
Mason is off to an impressive start, a 2.02 goals-against average and .935 save percentage; it is a carryover from his strong seven-game stint after the Flyers acquired him late last season from Columbus. Mason will catch the Coyotes on the backend of back-to-back, making him a solid play.

THE GOALIE EDGE - 10/10/2013
The Devils continue their Western Canada swing with a game against the Calgary Flames. Although the Flames have been playing well so far this season, look for the Devils, behind Martin Brodeur, to get their first win of the season. Joey Macdonald's numbers aren't that impressive at 3.30 GA and .895 SP and neither are Brodeur's, but New Jersey needs to win here....Kevin Poulin will get his first start of the season for the NY Islanders but it is coming against Nikolai Khabibulin and the Chicago Blackhawks. The Bulin Wall had decent numbers with Edmonton last year and can still play. Nabokov is off to a good start but the Isles decided it was time to give Poulin the nod. Look for this to be a battle as the Islanders will bring their high-octane offense to Chicago but the nod goes to the hometown team....Steve Mason has carried over his fine play from the end of last season so the Flyers should prevail over a tired Phoenix Coyotes squad who played last night against Detroit. No confirmation on the Coyotes goaltender yet....Jeff Zatkoff gets his NHL debut tonight against the Florida Panthers. Zatkoff had excellent numbers last season with the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins, going 26-20-0 with a 1.93 GAA and .920 SP. Still, this is his first start in the big leagues. Look for Scott Clemmensen to start between the pipes for Florida. Jacob Markstrom will be playing on back-to-back nights if he starts....Jonathan Quick and Cam Ward are struggling at the start of the season and tonight, both will face each other. The question is, who will right their season, and who will have to wait another day? Both have GAAs of over 3.00 with Ward closer to 4.00. My vote is on Quick and the LA Kings who had a night off yesterday while the Canes edged the Washington Caps....Dallas at Winnipeg doesn't have that sexy appeal as other matchups, but Kari Lehtonen and Ondrej Pavelec can play at elite levels, they are just not consistent at it. Evenly matched but side with the home team Jets.
FANTASY MUST-STARTS
Steve Mason, Phoenix vs. Philadelphia
Jonathan Quick, Los Angeles vs. Carolina
SLEEPER ALERT
None.
DAILY GOALIE PICKS
Steve Steve Mason(3-7)
Ray Steve Mason (4-6)

Goalie Start: Mason will start tonight. dailyfaceoff.com Tue 10/8/13 2:56 PM
With the Flyers struggling to score, Mason is 0-2-0 despite playing well so far. He allowed two goals on 34 shots in Sunday's loss to the Hurricanes. His 2.54 GAA and .915 SV% is a promising way from him to start the season. He has a good matchup vs. a Panthers team who allowed seven goals in their last game.
Goalie Start: Mason is the Flyers starter. dailyfaceoff.com Sun 10/6/13 7:56 PM
Mason allowed three goals on 25 shots in the Flyers season opener. Ray Emery did not fair much better last evening so Mason will go tonight. He will face the 0-1 Carolina Hurriances

UPDATE: Minnesota signed RW Jason Pominville to a 5-year contract extension. If I were playing on a line with Mikko Koivu and Zach Parise, I'd sign on the dotted line too. After seeing his former team, the Buffalo Sabres, play last night against Detroit, he may be happier than ever with a new contract....Boston signs solid D-man Dennis Seidenberg to a 4-year extension....ALL UPDATED IN THE GUIDE ALREADY!!!
THE ROAD LESS TRAVELLED--With the Detroit Red Wings moving into the Eastern Conference, people have been saying how the competition is tougher in the East. I say that the perennial powerhouse Red Wings will benefit from not having to travel across multiple time zones so many times across a full NHL season just to play a game. All that travel takes its toll on one's body and mental toughness. You could reasonably expect better than average numbers from the Detroit players this season because of this factor, and you will probably notice the difference in their level of play as the season progresses. Detroit finished in the middle of the pack last season in terms of Power Play ranking. By the looks of last night's game, they are gunning for the top spot in that category as they sported a 1st power play unit of Daniel Alfredsson and Niklas Kronwall at the points with Johan Franzen, Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk rounding out the unit. Although they were held off the board in last night's game, this group looks lethal.
More Game Notes: NEW SEASON, NEW PLAYERS, NEW BEGINNINGS--New acquisition G Jonathan Bernier looked very solid in net for the Toronto Maple Leafs as he turned away 31 of 32 shots on goal to earn the road victory against Steve Mason and the Philadelphia Flyers. Bernier has stepped out from behind Jonathan Quick's shadow in Los Angeles and now battles James Reimer for playing time in TO. Bernier raised the bar with last night's solid effort. Mason, who was acquired at the trade deadline last season, and Bernier are trying to prove to their teams that ...

Along with the 2 goals, he took 3 SOG and had 2 Hits and 1 Blocked Shot.
