Goalie Start: Mason starts tonight. dailyfaceoff.com Tue 10/29/13 2:56 PM
Mason stopped 26 of 28 shots in a 5-2 win over the Islanders on Saturday. The win was his second in a row and third on the season. He has easily been the Flyers best player this season (2.15 GAA / .930 SV%). He will be in tough tonight vs. an Anaheim team who ranks seventh in the NHL in scoring.
SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE - 10/27/2013 primepucks.com Sun 10/27/13 10:03 AM
I have my coffee and ready to roll.
What happened to Joey Crabb? Where did he go?
A wild shootout in the desert yesterday afternoon. I didn't know the Coyotes had it in them. Oilers, yes. Coyotes, no.
RNH has rebounded nicely after last year's lost season.
Rob Klinkhammer is more of a wrestling name than a hockey name. It's shame he didn't score in that Edmonton/Phoenix game.
That's three games in a row with 6 SOG for David Perron. What a devil!
Speaking of the devil, New Jersey pulled an unlikely upset of the Boston Bruins last night. Or was it old-timers day as Jarome Iginla (G, 2A), Jaromir Jagr (2A), Marek Zidlicky (G) & Martin Brodeur (W) all were prominent figures in the game. Give them the day off today, pleeease!
Big shutdown night as Crosby and Ovechkin were both held without a point with Stamkos & Malkin only 1 assist each.
That Phil Kessel is something else.
Logan Couture is heating up for what should be a career year.
Antti Niemi and Tuukka Rask will surely battle until the very last day for top goaltender honors, barring injury of course.
Carey Price was terrific in net again last night, but his team couldn't gain any momentum in the game. Once Pacioretty returns, Price will get on a winning streak if he continues to play this way.
Jimmy Howard has been struggling since his return from injury. He's lost 4 in a row. Try to grab him on the cheap.
There are only 8 teams with a record under .500 in the NHL.
Johan Franzen had 7 SOG in the game against the Rangers; showing that he's not so stubborn to shoot the puck after two straight games with none.
Top shooter on the Rangers? Anton Stralman. Yikes.
Patrick Roy has done an amazing job in Colorado so far. Let's see how long this lasts.
The Sabres just can't score. Perhaps they need to change coaches again.
Poor Thomas Vanek.
The Philadelphia Flyers are turning it around and Steve Mason is finally getting the wins that he deserves. It helps that everyone is back in the lineup too.
These young Islanders are looking good so far this year: Kyle Okposo and Frans Nielsen. You know besides JT & Matt Moulson. Nielsen is tied for third in league scoring. Just thought you'd like to know that.
I think Lecavalier likes playing in Philly. What do you think?
Standings are finally forming into what they should be except I have to do a double take each time I see the Avalanche at the top of the Central.
I definitely did not expect to see a 2-1 Shootout game in the Winnipeg/Dallas game.
There are too ...
Goalie Start: Mason is expected to get the nod in goal for the Flyers. dailyfaceoff.com Sat 10/26/13 2:56 PM
Mason turned aside 30 of 31 shots in a 2-1 win over the Rangers on Thursday. It was just his second win of the season, despite having a 2.17 GAA and .930 SV%. He will face the Islanders who are on the tail-end of a back-to-back and are expected to start their backup, Kevin Poulin. Mason should be a fine start tonight.

Kari Lehtonen is back! He has gone 3-1, while posting a 1.41 GAA and a .956 SP, so you know the Stars are ecstatic to have their no.1 playing over journeyman Dan Ellis. The Winnipeg Jets should be no match for the Stars tonight. Take Lehtonen big.... The Blues looked real flat after a week layoff in the loss to Vancouver, so expect the real version to show up tonight. Jaroslav Halak will be in net against a Nashville team devoid of any scoring punch and without the services of their top goalie Pekka Rinne. The Blues win.... After three consecutive defeats, look for Jimmy Howard and the Red Wings to "right the ship" against a struggling Rangers team. No Lundqvist, no Nash, no Callahan. NO WIN. Take Howard.... Forced into premature starting duty because the of Josh Harding injury, a less than 100% Niklas Backstrom takes the net against Chicago on the road. Corey Crawford and Blackhawks should prevail in this one.... Are we sniffing a huge letdown for the Isles against underdog Philly after their huge comeback victory last night in Pittsburgh? Yep, Steve Mason has been real solid for the Flyers, posting a 2.17 GAA. Take Philly in the upset.... Ben Bishop and the Lightning can also be playing in a "trap game" after their huge OT win against Chicago, but the Buffalo Sabres played last night and are relying on the services of struggling goalie Ryan Miller, who has lost last three starts while giving up 12 goals. Take Bishop all day.

Jaroslav Halak, St. Louis @ Nashville
Jimmy Howard, Detroit vs. NYR
Corey Crawford, Chicago vs. Minnesota
Ben Bishop, Tampa Bay vs. Buffalo
Tuukka Rask, Boston vs. New Jersey

Goalie Start: Mason starts vs. Rangers. dailyfaceoff.com Thu 10/24/13 2:56 PM
Mason has had seven days off since the last Flyers game, so he will be well rested vs. a banged up Rangers team. In his last start he allowed three goals on 34 shots in a loss to the Penguins. Despite a good GAA (2.37) and SV% (.923), Mason only has one win in six starts. It is a good matchup for him tonight, he'll face Cam Talbot making his NHL debut.

A lot of good matches on the lineup card tonight but one that is a must-see is the San Jose -- Boston contest pitting 2 of the top goaltenders in the game today against each other in Antti Niemi and Tuukka Rask. I'm not calling this one, but I will be watching... Cory Schneider has been anointed the Devils Number 1 goalie by, get this, Martin Brodeur. At least, he is on board with that decision by Head Coach Peter DeBoer. Brodeur has realized that the changing-of-the-guard is in order, plus the stats don't lie. Add to the storyline that Schneider will be facing his former team mate and friend Roberto Luongo again, this time on home ice, makes for a storybook ending for Schneider beating the Vancouver Canucks....The New York Rangers are just off to a disheartening start as starting goalie, Henrik Lundqvist, is out now with a nagging injury joining Rick Nash and Ryan Callahan. Cameron Talbot gets his first NHL start in place of Lundqvist as former backup Martin Biron has retired, thus ending his NHL career. This bodes well for Steve Mason and the Philadelphia Flyers who are looking to turnaround their own poor start. Mason has played well ever since coming over from the Columbus Blue Jackets at last year's trade deadline. He has posted decent numbers (2.37 GAA & .923 SP) but his record doesn't show it. Look for the Flyers to break out offensively and give Mason support for a change...It appears that Nikolai Khabibulin will be making a start against his former team as the Chicago Blackhawks try to avenge their home loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning. The "Bulin Wall" will have extra incentive as does the entire Blackhawk team who have been struggling somewhat on offense but still managing to win behind their defense and goaltending. Bolts' starter Ben Bishop has been playing lights out but look for Khabibulin to extend Chicago's win streak to 3...Not good news for Pekka Rinne owners as the elite goaltender will miss a minimum of 4 weeks after getting his hip checked out by doctors this morning. Carter Hutton slides into the starting role and played well in his start the other night, but having to fill those skates for a while may prove a little more difficult. However, he will be facing Winnipeg and Ondrej Pavelec who he beat in his only start of the season last week, so maybe the Preds defense can shut down the Jets' offense once again as Pavelec hasn't instilled a lot of confidence in ...
Goalie Start: Mason in for the Flyers. dailyfaceoff.com Thu 10/17/13 2:56 PM
Mason surrendered three goals on 25 shots in Tuesday's loss to Vancouver. His numbers continue to look good, but he still only has one win. The lack of offence in from of him hurts his fantasy value, and until they figure it out in Philly he is a tough play - especially tonight vs. Pittsburgh.
Goalie Start: Mason is your Flyers starter. dailyfaceoff.com Tue 10/15/13 2:56 PM
Mason allowed two goals on 31 shots in a 2-1 loss to the Coyotes on Friday. He has played very well, but the Flyers are having a tough time scoring. He was given the night off on Saturday so he'll be back in the cage tonight vs. Vancouver. His 2.02 GAA and .935 SV% have the scales tipping in his favour for the Flyers starting gig.
