Clemmensen will hang up his skates and take a job as the Devils' goaltending development coach, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports. The 37-year-old Clemmensen was slated to become an unrestricted free agent Wednesday, but with little more than a reserve role with an AHL club likely to be offered up to him from prospective teams, it appears he's decided to retire. A veteran of 12 NHL seasons, Clemmensen will wrap up his career with a 73-59 record, 2.79 GAA, and .905 save percentage over 191 appearances with the Devils, Maple Leafs, and Panthers.

The Devils will not to attempt to re-sign Clemmensen in the offseason, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports. This news hardly comes as a surprise, as Keith Kinkaid already has the Devils' backup goaltender job firmly secured. Clemmensen may get a chance with a club that lacks goalie depth, but it is unlikely that he will see much action in the NHL in 2015-16. He went 12-11-0 with a 2.23 GAA and a .918 save percentage in 27 games with AHL Albany last season.

Clemmensen was recalled Monday on an emergency basis. Clemmensen was recalled Monday to serve as the backup goaltender behind Corey Schneider as Keith Kinkaid will be unavailable due to a groin injury. The emergency recall means he will be sent down after the game unless the the Devils decide to make a move instead. With Kinkaid's injury is considered minor, the likely result is a one-day stay for Clemmensen.

Clemmensen was diagnosed with the mumps Saturday, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports. The Devils have been one of the NHL hit hard by the mumps this season, but until Clemmensen's diagnosis, the organization's AHL affiliate in Albany hasn't had any players come down with the virus. However, because the mumps can lay dormant for a number of weeks before taking effect, it's likely Clemmensen acquired the virus during his stint with the parent club early in December. In any event, he'll be isolated from the AHL squad until further notice to prevent further spreading of the disease.

Clemmensen was reassigned to AHL Albany on Tuesday. Though Clemmensen has spent more time with the parent club this season, it's clear that Keith Kinkaid, who was recalled from Albany in his stead Tuesday, is the Devils' preferred No. 2 option organization-wide. However, because of the heavy workload incurred by Cory Schneider, the Devils have chosen to keep Clemmensen for most of the season in an effort to get the more youthful Kinkaid some more development time in the minors. With Schneider being granted a rare day off Tuesday, the Devils will take the opportunity to give Kinkaid a spin as their starter. Kinkaid is likely to return to the minors shortly thereafter, with Clemmensen then expected to rejoin the Devils.

Clemmensen made his first start of the season Saturday, stopping 33 of 37 shots in a shootout loss to the Flames. Wait, Cory Schneider finally got a night off? Did we read that right? The former Canuck had started 20 straight games, but the team finally gave him a rest Saturday, turning to the backup Clemmensen instead. Unfortunately, Clemmensen's lackluster performance Saturday is exactly why Schneider will continue to be an absolute workhorse in the Devils' crease. Clemmensen's struggles over the last few years are probably the reason he won't see much action as the backup to Schneider this season. Even when he's called upon, he won't be very useful for fantasy goers.

Clemmensen will make his first start of the season Saturday versus the Flames, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports. After starting Cory Schneider for each of the team's first 20 games, coach Pete DeBoer finally relented Saturday, letting the backup see some time in a measure to afford his top netminder some rest. Clemmensen's poor career numbers (2.79 GAA, .905 save percentage) hardly make him a trustworthy option in goal, which probably has a lot to do with DeBoer's inclination to lean on Schneider so heavily. Don't count on Clemmensen to deliver pretty results on the road in Calgary.

The Devils recalled Clemmensen from AHL Albany on Monday, Tom Gulitti of the Record reports. The veteran has been getting some work in with AHL Albany after a rough start to the season, but will swap placed with Keith Kinkaid and take over backup duties behind Cory Schneider.

The Devils placed Clemmensen on waivers Monday, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports. Clemmensen will head to AHL Albany once he clears waivers so he can get some more in-game work than he's gotten with the Devils. Clemmensen has appeared in two games this year, but allowed four goals on 17 shots, and didn't record a decision.
