Ryan O'Reilly's agent and the Colorado Avalanche are expected to resume contract talks in one-to-two weeks. O'Reilly is the Avalanche's last remaining restricted free agent. He'll likely want to be paid based on his breakout 55 point season, but the Avalanche might bulk at the prospect of handing a player a big contract after just one good season. The two sides should eventually come to terms, but the process certainly hasn't been progressing quickly.

The Denver Post's Mike Chambers thinks that Ryan O'Reilly should get something in the $4 million range when he finally re-signs with the Colorado Avalanche. O'Reilly is Colorado's last restricted free agent. He took a huge step forward last season with 18 goals and 55 points in 81 games. He also led the NHL with 101 takeaways. Given that O'Reilly ended up with 26 points in his rookie and sophomore campaigns, Colorado might be hesitant to pay him solely based on his 2011-12 numbers. Still, the two sides should be able to come to an understanding this summer.

Ryan O'Reilly is the Colorado Avalanche's last major restricted free agent. O'Reilly had 18 goals and 55 points in 81 games last season after recording 26 points in his first two NHL campaigns. His negotiating position might have been hurt by Matt Duchene's willingness to sign a two-year/$7 million contract extension. O'Reilly had the better 2011-12 campaign, but the two broke into the league at the same time and Duchene has been better overall. Whatever the case might be, O'Reilly and the Avalanche still have plenty of time left to come to terms.
