THE GOALIE EDGE: 4/1/2014 primepucks.com Tue 4/1/14 2:28 PM

ALL GOALIES ARE CONFIRMED UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED AT THE TIME OF PRINT New Jersey is alive and kicking still after last night's somewhat shaky 6-3 victory over the Florida panthers. Cory Schneider gets the start tonight against Nathan Lieuwen and the Buffalo Sabres. Brodeur was pulled after letting in 3 goals so he may not see much action going forward as long as the Devils are still in the playoff hunt.  A win tonight and some other good fortune could spring them right back in the thick of things...... Sergei Bobrovsky looks to return to the net tonight against Semyon Varlamov and the Colorado Avalanche. The Columbus Blue Jackets are in a dogfight with a few teams for a playoff spot and need Bobber to carry the load in net.  He faces a hot goaltender and team in Avs' G Varlamov but the home ice (20-14-3) should give them a little bit of an advantage, although Colorado is a solid road team (22-10-3).... Kari Lehtonen marches the Dallas Stars into Washington in what is a critical game for both teams. The Capitals will go with Jaroslav Halak (LIKELY) in hopes of staying close to the pack fighting for that last playoff spot in the East. Both teams are a point behind the 8th playoff spot, with both of the teams they are chasing playing tonight on their home ice. The caps have lost 3 in a row, two by the shootout.  Lehts and the Stars have won 4 of 5 and have the momentum after beating St. Louis in their last game.  Reach for the Stars... Anton Khudobin (LIKELY) gets the start against the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight clearly showing that he will get the majority of the starts going out as he got the harder of the back-to-back matchups. Marc-Andre Fleury gets the nod for the Pens who have won 2 in a row and are trying to get healthy for the playoffs. Pens should beat up on a tired Canes team that played last night.... Evgeni Nabokov and the NY Islanders take on a beaten up Florida Panther squad who lost to New Jersey 6-3 last night in Newark. Scott Clemmensen (LIKELY) will be in net the Cats but this team, for the most part, has packed it in. Just some auditions for next year's teams... Karri Ramo and the Calgary flames head into Toronto to take on the struggling Maple Leafs. Jonathan Bernier will be in net once again as the Leafs try to right the ship in time to make the playoffs. It's hard to believe that the Leafs are just 1-9-0 in their last ten, not even earning a point in any of their 9 losses.  But someday that streak will have to end, but not if they ...

DAILY PRIME - MARCH 28, 2014: OSHIE BACK ON TOP primepucks.com Fri 3/28/14 6:08 AM

Since his heroic shootout exploits against Team Russia in the Olympics, American winger T.J. Oshie hasn't followed up with the same success in his return to the NHL. After enduring a brief slump of 4 straight games without a point, the Blues forward had himself a heck of a night with a "hat trick" and 6 shots on goal. That gives him 6 points in the last two games and 60 on the season. His recent "hot" streak has helped him eclipse his previous career-high of 54 points set in 2011. Amongst the "potpourri" of interchangeable forwards utilized in Ken Hitchcock's balanced offensive scheme, Oshie has stood out as perhaps the most consistent forward option to own on St. Louis. So is it really much warmer in St. Louis than Buffalo? Well, if you ask Ryan Miller, I am sure he would agree. After turning aside 27 of 28 shots in the 5-1 demolition of Minnesota, the streaking goaltender has amassed an incredible 9-2-1 record since being traded to the Blues, along with a 2.03 GAA and a .918 SP. Maybe the elite goalie option in the NHL right now. Nashville's Shea Weber scored 2 more goals, raising his season total to 20, which is lofty by anyone's standards for a defenseman. With his career-high of 23 goals on the verge of being eclipsed, there are only a few fantasy blueliners better than the best Predator of all. What can you say about Tuukka Rask? Bouncing back after a tough home loss to Montreal, the Boston goalie prodigy stopped all 28 shots in the 3-0 shutout win over Chicago. With a 9-0-1 record over his last 10 starts, he is nearly unbeatable these days, but keep in mind that back-up Chad Johnson will get more starts over the last few weeks with Boston having nothing to play for. With Anders Lee stealing much of the rookie spotlight for the Islanders in the absence of the injured John Tavares, fantasy owners need also keep the more highly-skilled Ryan Strome on their fantasy radar for next season. His goal last night gives him 13 points in 28 games, but more importantly, he is gaining invaluable experience as he gobbles up big minutes with JT out. He could be poised for a huge jump next season, maybe 55-60 points. Anton Khudobin delivered another monster effort in the crease for Carolina, blanking Florida with 35 saves. His numbers are far superior to Cam Ward's, as he has gone 16-12 with a 2.20 GAA and a .929 SP. The Hurricanes would be wise to hand over the reigns to the young netminder for the remainder of the season. After being irrelevant for most of the ...

THE GOALIE EDGE: 3/27/2014 primepucks.com Thu 3/27/14 11:11 AM

ALL GOALIES ARE CONFIRMED UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED AT THE TIME OF PRINT The Boston Bruins will look to avenge their 3-2 shootout loss on January 19th along with losing last year's Stanley Cup to the Chicago Blackhawks tonight at TD Garden. In what could possibly be a prelude to another Stanley Cup Finals match, this should bring all the intensity of a close rivalry.  Carey Crawford (LIKELY) will face Tuukka Rask, this time the B's finally get it done....Thomas Greiss will get the call again for Phoenix as the Coyotes try to build on their victory over the Penguins on Tuesday night. Martin Brodeur will look to keep New Jersey's playoff hopes alive, although he has lost 3 straight. Expect the Devils to bring it tonight against the NHL's least used backup in Greiss.  Don't let that fool you.  Greiss is a good goalie, and he plays in the Tippett system.  You know what that does to a goalie's performance?  Just ask Bryzgalov....Another potential Stanley Cup Finals matchup tonight in Pittsburgh as the Penguins host the Los Angeles Kings.  In a  battle ofthe backups, Jeff Zatkoff looks to end the Pens two-game losing streak but has tough competition with Martin Jones (LIKELY) in net for the Kings.  The Pens have been hit hard with injuries but still lead the Metropolitan Division and basically have it sewn up while LA is looking to shore up their position.  Should be a doozy....Detroit is fighting for their playoff lives and will face a streaking Montreal team that has won 3 in a row.  Jimmy Howard will get the call for the Red Wings as Carey Price will defend the net for the Habs.  Price is coming off a 2-0 blanking of the Sabres and is rounding into shape following his recent LBI.  Look for the Canadiens to clip the Wings tonight....In a game with no playoff implications but teams building for next season, Anton Khudobin will be in the crease for the Carolina Hurricanes as they head to Florida to take on Roberto Luongo and the Panthers.  This could be a good game fantasy-wise with lots of goals.....Don't look now but the John Tavares-less New York Islanders have won 2 in a row and look to make it 3 against Ben Bishop and the Tampa Bay Lightning.  I don't think so as the Bolts look to halt a 2-game skid and gain ground in a t least solidifying home ice advantage for the first round.  Evgeni Nabokov has been sharing the net lately with Anders Nilssonbut gets the call tonight.....Ryan Miller will look to backstop the NHL leading St. Louis blues to their 50th win ...

Goalie Start: Miller will be back in goal for the Blues on Thursday. dailyfaceoff.com Wed 3/26/14 7:56 PM

Miller stopped 22 of 25 shots in Tuesday's win over the Maple Leafs. Miller has now given up 10 goals in his last three starts and strangely enough has a lower SV% with the Blues (.913) than he did with the Sabres (.923). However, that can largely be attributed to the volume of shots he faced in Buffalo. On Thursday, he takes on a Wild team who are 3-3-4 in their last 10 games.

THE GOALIE EDGE: 3/22/2014 primepucks.com Sat 3/22/14 2:51 PM

ALL GOALIES ARE CONFIRMED UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED AT THE TIME OF PRINT Lots of action in the NHL with 11 games scheduled today. St Louis and Philadelphia will start things off this afternoon. Ryan Miller has been (CONFIRMED) for the Blues while Steve Mason is (LIKELY) for the Flyers. Miller has been lights out since his trade to St. Louis with a 7-1-1 record.  He has really found a home with the Blues.  Mason has 3 straight wins so this should be a good contest.  Would not go against Miller though.  Tampa Bay is at Pittsburgh and we will have two goaltenders who are going in different directions.  Ben Bishop (LIKELY) has 5 straight wins for the Lightning, while Marc-Andre Fleury (LIKELY) has lost 3 straight for the Penguins.  Like Bishop in this one.  Detroit faces Minnesota and Jimmy Howard has been (CONFIRMED) for the Red Wings. Darcy Kuemper has been (CONFIRMED) for the Wild.  Kuemper has played very well this season with a 12-5-4 record a 2.22 GA and a .923 SP.  He has allowed only 5 goals in his last 3 games. Go with Kuemper. Robin Lehner is (CONFIRMED) for Ottawa against Dallas, while Kari Lehtonen is (LIKELY) for the Stars. Lehner has really had a tough year with a 3.31 GA and a .904 SP.  Lehtonen has been pretty solid this year with 25 wins and a 2.52 GA.  He did get lit up in his last game against Pittsburgh allowing 5 goals.  Still like him in this game.  Roberto Luongo is (LIKELY) for Florida against Los Angeles, with Jonathan Quick (LIKELY) for the Kings. Quick and Luongo each have 22 wins on the year, and they have save percentages that are very close for the year.  But like Quick in this one, as he has allowed only 11 goals in his last 5 games. The Rangers will be at New Jersey today and Henrik Lundqvist is (LIKELY) for New York while Martin Brodeur is (CONFIRMED) for the Devils. With Cory Schneider struggling this season, Brodeur has gotten a lot of ice time recently. Lundqvist has won 5 of his last 7 games, while Brodeur has lost 2 straight.  Like Henrik!   Montreal travels to Toronto in a game between Canadien teams.  Carey Price is (LIKELY) to be in goal for the Canadiens, and James Reimer is (LIKELY) in goal for the Maple Leafs. Price has won 4 of his last 5 games, while Reimer has lost 5 of 6 in March, and his 3.29 GA is ugly.  Take Price. Cam Ward is (LIKELY) for Carolina against Winnipeg, which will (LIKELY) start Al Montoya. Ward has had a really tough year with injuries and poor play.  He lost to Boston 5-1 in his last game.  ...
