Umberger (upper body) will not be in the lineup Monday against the Panthers, Adam Kimelman of NHL.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Sam Gagner reportedly will take his place in the lineup. Umberger should be considered day-to-day with the ailment.

Umberger picked up an assist on the power play and another at even strength in Thursday's season-opening overtime loss against the Lightning.
EDGE Analysis
Umberger was talking about a bounce-back coming into this season, and he certainly delivered on those hopes in the first game of the year. However, despite the productivity, he skated a modest 13:10, and as a guy who hasn't even approached 50 points since 2010-11, Umberger shouldn't be looked at as a fantasy savior off the waiver wire.

Umberger says he feels rejuvenated following March 19 hip surgery and believes he will come through with a bounce-back season, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Before going under the knife to address a hip issue that had been bothering him since the beginning of last season, Umberger was a disaster for the Flyers, finishing with a mere nine goals and 15 points in 67 games. Umberger attributed his lack of offensive impact to playing at less than 100 percent speed, but the offseason procedure has seemingly corrected that issue. It seems reasonable to bet on Umberger submitting a 30- or 40-point season now that seemingly no health concerns are lurking in the background, but his advancing age (he turned 33 in May) and declining skill set makes it unlikely that he'll reemerge as the 50-point scorer he was during his prime years with the Blue Jackets.

Umberger indicated Monday that he's recovering well from March 19 surgery to repair his right hip and bilateral abdominal areas. "It's coming up on 11 weeks since my surgery and I couldn't be happier with the progress I'm making and the strength I'm getting back," Umberger said. "I basically totally rebuilt my core system. I'm strengthening my hip, my back, and it's been a good process." The procedure kept Umberger out for the Flyers' remaining 13 games, spelling a premature end to a 2014-15 season that saw the 33-year-old finish with a career-worst 15 points across 67 contests. Umberger qualified as a massive disappointment after he was acquired in exchange for one of the team's most popular stars in Scott Hartnell, but playing through the injury likely had much to do with his awful numbers. With Umberger feeling fresh heading into 2015-16, he should make for a respectable bounce-back target.

Umberger (hip/abdominal muscles) will undergo surgery Wednesday, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. The Flyers announced that Umberger's season would come to an end Saturday morning, with GM Ron Hextall indicating that the forward has been playing through the injuries for months. Hextall acknowledged that the Flyers were aware of Umberger's hip issues prior to acquiring him over the past summer, but believed he would be able to effectively play through the injury before requiring surgery at season's end. That clearly didn't seem to be the case, as Umberger put up a career-low 15 points before the Flyers opted to shut him down for good.

Umberger will undergo surgery on his right hip and abdominal muscles and miss the remainder of the season, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Umberger is expected to require 10 weeks to heal up from the procedure, so he should still have something that resembles a normal offseason. It's possible that the injury has inhibited him all season, as he's been a disaster since arriving in a trade with the Blue Jackets last summer. The winger has mustered only nine goals and 15 points over 67 games this season, and hadn't found the net in his last 18 contests. Umberger probably won't have much trouble besting those marks next season, but at 32 years old, it's clear that his best years are probably behind him. He may have to serve in a bottom-six capacity in 2015-16.

Umberger registered an assist in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Blue Jackets. In a rematch with his former team, Umberger had a productive night with a point and four shots on goal, but he was overshadowed by the man he was traded for, Scott Hartnell, who helped out on two scores for the Blue Jackets. Hartnell has outpaced Umberger by 24 points this season despite playing in seven fewer games, making the trade a rather lopsided one in favor of Columbus. After what has been a miserable debut season in Philadelphia, Umberger will still have two more years on his contract with a cap hit of $4.6 million.

Umberger netted his eighth goal of the season in Saturday's game against the Sabres, firing off five shot attempts in the victory. Umberger has seen his production improve a bit from December and onward, but he's still not scoring with nearly the proficiency the Flyers anticipated when they acquired him from the Blue Jackets. He has just 12 points in 46 games and isn't helpful enough in other categories to compensate for the decline in scoring.

Umberger scored a pair of goals and collected two PIM in Monday's 4-2 loss to the Coyotes. After a long, pointless drought in November, Umberger has awoken in December to the tune of six points in the month. Almost all of his points have come in road games, and he'll have three more before the Flyers return home. He's not a prolific scorer, but he could be worth a spot start in a deep league.
