That role, if Smith can keep it, could make him a bounce-back candidate -- he's reached the 50-point mark six times in his career.

Smith was traded to the Rangers from the Penguins on Monday in exchange for a 2027 second-round pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick.

Smith figures to slot into a third-line role but could provide cover for the top six if injuries pop up.

Brought over from Vegas in the offseason, Smith struggled to reproduce his 2022-23 numbers when he racked up 26 goals and 30 helpers.
