This is what we've come to expect from the Finnish defenseman. Ristolainen has had at least 41 points in each of his last three seasons, and he has 24 through 37 games this season. He's still playing a ton of minutes, even with the presence of wunderkind Rasmus Dahlin, and for at least this season is the primary offensive force for the Sabres.

Ristolainen had the primary assist on Jack Eichel and Jeff Skinner's power-play goals in a 4-3 overtime win over Los Angeles on Tuesday.

EDGE Analysis

Assists are the reason to have Ristolainen in your lineup, and he continues to produce at a high level in that category, recording five in his past three games. The points on the power play are a nice addition, and owners have to be happy with the effort he's given them this year.

It was good to see Ristolainen hit the score sheet, as he had been dealing with a bit of a slump prior to Monday's contest, going scoreless through his past three appearances. The Finnish blueliner has been a workhorse for the Sabres this season, averaging a whopping 25:21 of ice time per contest, but he's generally tasked with shutting down the opponents' top line on a nightly basis, a role that doesn't necessarily lend itself to high-end offensive production.

Ristolainen has been Buffalo's No. 1 defenseman, and anchors the top power play unit. His minus-11 rating may be viewed as cause for concern, and while there's room for improvement, he's not to blame for every goal allowed when he's on the ice. He's been taking more chances offensively, which has resulted with nine points in 18 games thus far. The team is having its most successful season in recent memory, and Ristolainen has played a key role in their climb out of the basement.

Ristolainen scored Thursday's game-winning goal in a 6-5 overtime win against the Canadiens.

EDGE Analysis

Ristolainen beat Canadiens' netminder, Carey Price with a shot from the top of the circle in overtime, a puck that Price, by most accounts, should've stopped. The game-winner was the 24-year-old defenseman's first goal since Oct. 21 and gives him two goals and seven points in 16 games in 2018-19

Ristolainen isn't even the most famous Rasmus on the Sabres now, but there's a lot to like about him. He's been particularly good on the power play. The Finnish defenseman has at least 21 points with the extra man in each of his last three seasons, and he already has three this year.

Ristolainen returned to action but failed to register a point in Thursday's 4-0 loss to Boston.

Returning from an upper-body injury, Ristolainen finished Thursday's game a minus-2. However, the 23-year-old Finn dished out five hits, blocked two shots and registered two more shots on goal, sort of a silver lining for fantasy owners. The blueliner will hope for a better fate Saturday when Buffalo hosts the Rangers.

Ristolainen (upper body) appears set for Thursday's home opener versus the Bruins since he returned to practice Sunday.

EDGE Analysis

Ristolainen is projected to reprise his role as a top-pairing defenseman, working on the right side of second-year Sabre Marco Scandella. There's understandably been plenty of hype around Buffalo's 2018 No. 1 overall draft pick, Rasmus Dahlin, but don't forget that Risto has amassed 127 points -- including 69 combined goals and assists on the power play -- over the past three seasons, and having to share more of the spotlight could cause him to be unnecessarily undervalued.
