Dahlin is coming off the worst statistical season of his career, as he managed just .41 points per game, well off the pace from his previous two years. Still, with Rasmus Ristolainen shipped off to Philadelphia, Dahlin should be in line for a bigger role this year, including potentially quarterbacking the No. 1 power-play unit.

Dahlin finished his season with a seven-game point drought.

After scoring 44 points in his rookie year, Dahlin followed that up with 40 points in 59 games in 2019-20. However, 2020-21 was a struggle for many Sabres, including Dahlin, who logged only 23 points in 56 contests with a team-worst minus-36 rating. He was unable to find the scoresheet during the final seven matches and had three other droughts lasting at least five games. Dahlin has much more to give, so he'll be a candidate for having a bounce-back campaign in 2021-22.

Dahlin notched an assist, three shots on goal and two PIM in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Rangers.

Dahlin carried the puck through the neutral zone, then fed Sam Reinhart across the slot for the Sabres' third goal of the game. The 21-year-old Dahlin has 23 points, 99 shots, 20 PIM, 67 hits, 37 blocked shots and a minus-34 rating through 49 appearances this season.

Dahlin scored an even-strength goal and added a power-play assist in Friday's 6-4 win over the Bruins.

EDGE Analysis

The 21-year-old has had a sluggish campaign overall, but he seems to be finding a spark late. Dahlin has three goals and 10 points over the last 12 games, but on the season he's managed only five goals and 22 points in 48 contests.

Dahlin collected two assists and a season-high eight shots in Sunday's 4-2 win over Pittsburgh. He also had two PIM and one hit.

EDGE Analysis

Dahlin figured in on goals by Arttu Ruotsalainen and Sam Reinhart, the latter coming on a power play, to help the Sabres build a 3-0 lead. Dahlin has enjoyed a fine April, amassing two goals and six assists in 10 contests.

Dahlin scored an even-strength goal to complement six hits in Tuesday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Bruins.

Dahlin buried a slap shot through traffic with the goal sending the game to overtime. The supremely talented Swedish defenseman has recorded at least one point in five of the last six contests, and Dahlin's physical edge seems to be paying dividends of late.

The 2018 first overall pick has rarely displayed the ability to take over games, but he did so here. Dahlin tied it at three apiece late in the second period, then provided the lone helper on Casey Mittelstadt's power-play game-winner in the third. It has been a forgettable third season for Dahlin after he reached the 40-point mark in each of his first two campaigns, but perhaps he'll be able to build on his first multi-point performance of the season.

Dahlin's point shot late in the opening period somehow eluded Pittsburgh netminder Tristan Jarry, reducing the Penguins' lead to 2-1. The goal was Dahlin's first since Jan. 31, ending a span of 20 consecutive games without lighting the lamp. It's been a trying year for everyone in Buffalo this season and Dahlin is no exception; the third-year defenseman has seen his offensive production cut in half compared to 2019-20 while logging a league-worst minus-30 rating.

Dahlin had a hand in the second of Sam Reinhart's two first-period tallies. The 20-year-old defenseman also displayed a rare physical edge -- Dahlin had recorded multiple hits just twice this season prior to Tuesday's aggressive output. The Swede has 11 points (eight on the power play), 52 shots on net, 24 hits and a minus-21 rating in 24 outings.

The apple gives Dahlin points in three consecutive games. He's up to seven points, all of them scored in his 10 most recent affairs. After a slow start, Dahlin is starting to heat up, but it's worth noting that all of his points have been generated from the power play. That's great for leagues counting power-play points, but it's concerning that he doesn't have an even-strength point through 16 games. He'll look to buck that trend, and improve on his minus-15 rating.
