DAILY PRIME - MARCH 24, 2014: ALL ABOUT NYQUIST primepucks.com Mon 3/24/14 5:16 AM

Not a very eventful NHL evening in terms of fantasy implications, but a star is being born under our very eyes and his name is Gustav Nyquist. The 24-year old has finally received a legitimate chance to showcase his world-class skills in the NHL as Detroit's forward corps has been under seige by injury all season. With Pavel Datsyuk out of action, Nyquist has been slotted back to his natural position of center and continues to reap the rewards with superior offensive production. In the 4-3 defeat to Minnesota, he netted two more goals, raising his total to 23 in just 46 games. Since late January, he actually leads the entire NHL in that category. Yep! With 46 points in 40 games, his overall numbers suggest that he is a borderline point-per-game performer, but ever since he was thrust into a primary role, he has been way better than that with 30 points in his last 24. His emergence is also helping highly touted winger Tomas Tatar realize some of his huge offensive potential, as these two linemates seem to be the logical successors to Detroit's top duo in Datysuk and Zetterberg. The jury is still out on Tatar, but you can bet that Nyquist will be a fantasy star in '14-15, regardless of who is injured or not for the Red Wings. Quick Shots Daniel Sedin and Ryan Kesler both returned to the Vancouver line-up last night and although they were both held off the scoreboard, you might consider starting either one if you don't have better forward options. Sedin in particular is in a nasty scoring slump, not having registering a point since Januar 23, but his team is in dire need of some goals as they barely hang in the Western Conference playoff race. I say he does ok this week, but I would play any hot hand over him. Pekka Rinne bounced back from a few sub-par efforts to shut out the Chicago Blackhawks to bring his current record to 7-9-1 with a 2.59 GAA and a .909 SP. Don't fret Rinne owners, as the talented Finn should resume his spot as an elite NHL fantasy goalie option next season. Corey Perry's huge night-one goal plus two helpers- gives the Anaheim star 72 points in 71 games. I deeply regret not believing in Perry's prospects of returning to his Art Ross Trophy winning form after signing that lucrative contract extension last season, but I was dead wrong. One of fantasy's very best. Even though he was not in stellar form for Minnesota last night, goalie Ilya Bryzgalov has been effective in the crease since his trade to the Wild, going 2-0-2 with a 2.16 GAA...
