Though Bergeron (elbow) remains unsigned, Bruins GM Don Sweeney has expressed a degree of optimism that the veteran center will elect to play for the team this coming season, Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
"I think we're in a really good place with Patrice," Sweeney noted earlier this week. "Just the timing and working out the details of his contract and allowing him to declare that he's good to go could be any timeframe there." Bergeron -- who turns 37 on July 24 -- is coming off a 2021-22 campaign in which he recorded 25 goals and 65 points in 73 games en route to being awarded his fifth Selke Trophy. Per Amalie Benjamin of NHL.com, Bergeron is bouncing back from surgery to repair a tendon in his left elbow, with the center's expected recovery timetable putting him on track to be ready to play again by the end of August.

Bergeron scored two goals -- one on the power play -- on seven shots in Wednesday's 5-2 Game 2 loss to the Hurricanes.
EDGE Analysis
Bergeron was the only Bruin able to solve Pyotr Kochetkov, who replaced Antti Raanta (upper body) after Raanta was knocked out by a David Pastrnak hit. Unfortunately for Boston, each of Bergeron's tallies merely reduced Carolina's lead to two goals, and the Hurricanes have built a 2-0 series lead.

Bergeron registered five shots, two PIM and five hits against Carolina in Game 1 on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Bergeron was back on the ice after sitting out the regular-season finale against Toronto on April 29. Much like the rest of his teammates, Bergeron failed to find the back of the net despite his five shots. If the Bruins are going to bounce back from their Game 1 loss, they will need Bergeron to start putting pucks into the back of the net.
