Dobson will be in contention for a spot on the Islanders' 2019-20 Opening Night roster, Arthur Staple of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Dobson spent the 2018-19 campaign in the QMJHL, racking up 15 goals and 52 points in 56 games split between the Titan and Huskies. The 2018 first-round pick appears to be NHL ready, but the Islanders currently have a logjam at defense, so he'll have to have a highly impressive showing at training camp in order to earn a spot on the big club's roster. Dobson's outlook for the 2019-20 season will become clearer once New York's camp gets underway next Friday.

Dobson is unlikely to start the season with the Islanders, Arthur Staple of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Dobson is the top defensive prospect for New York and is probably ready to play in the NHL, but unless the Islanders make a trade or there's an injury in training camp, the fact remains that they already have seven NHL-caliber defenders in camp. Under contract for the Isles are Nick Leddy, Johnny Boychuk, Ryan Pulock, Thomas Hickey, Adam Pelech, Scott Mayfield and Devon Toews. That means one of those players will have to be a healthy scratch for every game, and if the team were to add Dobson, two would have to watch from the press box on a nightly basis. There have been rumors for several months that Leddy could be moved via trade. That would not only free up a roster spot, but also alleviate some salary cap issues for the Isles. However, at the moment nothing seems to be close. Dobson could force the issue with a lights out training camp, but in the end, he seems ticketed to begin the season with AHL Bridgeport.

Dobson has been named Most Valuable Player of the 2018-19 QMJHL playoffs.
EDGE Analysis
Dobson and his Rouyn-Noranda Huskies defeated Halifax in six games to win the QMJHL Championship and move on to the Memorial Cup. It will be the second straight season that Dobson will play for the CHL's greatest prize. He won the championship with Acadie-Bathurst in 2017-18. With 27 points in 19 games, Dobson has really found his groove this postseason. The 12th overall selection by the Islanders in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, Dobson is just about ready for NHL duty. Expect him to get a long look in training camp.

Dobson racked up three assists to help Rouyn-Noranda to a 4-0 win over Victoriaville and a four-game sweep of its QMJHL quarterfinal playoff series on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Dobson and the Huskies were dominant in the brief series, outscoring Victoriaville by a 21-3 margin. Now 10 games into his 2019 postseason, Dobson has already tallied 15 points. The Islanders have had a shockingly successful season, but they are going to need another reliable, minute-eating defender for 2019-20, and Dobson appears ready to fill that role. Expect the 12th overall selection from 2018 to get a long look in training camp.

Dobson agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract with New York on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Dobson was drafted by the Islanders with the 12th overall pick of the 2018 NHL Draft. The 18-year-old is coming off a breakout campaign with QMJHL Acadie-Bathurst in which he garnered 69 points in 67 regular-season contests, before adding another three goals and 10 helpers in the playoffs. The blueliner figures to spend another year in juniors before making his way into the team's development system.
