Hjalmarsson (lower body) signed a two-year, $10 million contract extension with the Coyotes on Saturday, Elliotte Friedman
EDGE Analysis
Injuries were largely to blame for Hjalmarsson only appearing in 48 games last season. He produced one goal and eight assists in that span.

Hjalmarsson (core) is expected to be ready for the start of next season's training camp, Craig Morgan of NHL.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Swedish defender missed the final eight games of the 2017-18 campaign after suffering the injury, though he missed a total of 34 contests through injury this season. Hjalmarsson struggled like most of his Coyotes teammates this season, recording a disappointing one goal, eight assists, and minus-3 rating -- the first time he's finished as a minus player since his rookie year. While he'll never be a defender that fantasy owners will rely upon, Hjalmarsson and the Desert Dogs should see something of a resurgence in 2018-19.

Hjalmarsson (lower body) will miss the rest of the season.
EDGE Analysis
The former Blackhawk finishes with nine points (one goal, eight assists) and 118 blocked shots over 48 games. Hjalmarsson was also bogged down by an upper-body issue earlier in the year, and his inability to provide much offense when healthy sapped what little fantasy value he had during his first tour with Arizona. Trevor Murphy and Kevin Connauton figure to see more playing time with Hjalmarsson out of commission.

Hjalmarsson (lower body) returned to Arizona on Friday for additional evaluation and is considered day-to-day moving forward, Dave Vest of the Coyotes' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hjalmarsson will miss Saturday's contest as a result, but the day-to-day tag suggests he could return before the end of the four-game road trip. An early signal of that possibility would be the veteran blueliner rejoining the team and returning to practice, so owners should be on the lookout for news on that front. Trevor Murphy will likely replace him in Saturday's lineup against the Panthers.

Hjalmarsson will not return to Thursday's game against the Hurricanes due to a lower-body injury.
EDGE Analysis
Hjalmarsson had to be helped off the ice and into the locker room after sustaining his injury late in the second period of Thursday's contest. The severity of his malady has yet to be determined, but he should be considered questionable at best for Saturday's matchup with the Panthers at this juncture.

Hjalmarsson helped his team steal a point with the game-tying goal in a 4-3 overtime loss to Edmonton on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
The fact that it's taken 39 games for Hjalmarsson to find twine speaks to just how much of a defensive weapon he is. He's great to have on the team you root for, but in terms of fantasy, unless your league rewards defensive stats such as blocked shots, there's virtually nothing there.

Hjalmarsson has recorded just two assists through 19 games since returning from an upper-body injury Jan. 6.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran has recorded only six assists and 26 shots over 36 games this season, so his fantasy value is extremely limited. His offensive fortunes are unlikely to improve, either. Hjalmarsson is being deployed in a defense-first role with 55.7 percent of his five-on-five shifts beginning in his own zone while also averaging 2:18 of shorthanded ice time per game.

Hjalmarsson (upper body) has been activated for Friday night's home game against the Oilers.
EDGE Analysis
There could be some rust to shake off for Hjalmarsson given that he missed 16 straight games with the ailment, but he makes for a sneaky value play in DFS contests since there might not be too many poolies aware of his imminent return. He'll be worth immediate activation in leagues that count blocked shots, as he's amassed 1,226 of those in his 11-year career split spent primarily with the Blackhawks.

Hjalmarsson (upper body) will not play Saturday against the Rangers, Craig Morgan of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hjalmarsson has returned to practice recently, but he will use the additional five days of rest ahead for the Coyotes to ensure he's ready to give it a go. If he can, the blueliner would be slotted to rejoin the action Jan. 12 against the Oilers.

Hjalmarsson (upper body) is expected to return to practice with his teammates Saturday, Craig Morgan of NHL.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hjalmarsson's impending return to practice indicates he's likely closing in on a return to the lineup, but he hasn't tasted game action since he sustained his upper-body injury Nov. 28 against Edmonton, so he'll likely need to log several full practices before being given the green light. Once he's cleared to play, Hjalmarsson will likely return to his role skating with Oliver Ekman-Larsson on the Coyotes' top pairing. However, while the stay-at-home defender's return will undoubtedly improve Arizona's leaky defense, his lack of offensive upside will continue to keep him off the fantasy radar in all but the deepest of formats.
