Just his second goal of the year, it gave the Caps a 1-0 lead late in the second period, but the team's overall offensive struggles continued despite a line shakeup that saw T.J. Oshie and Marcus Johansson placed with Backstrom on the second trio. Backstrom himself had failed to find the scoresheet in three straight coming in, so it's nice to see him get something going; his total of 10 points in 15 games is disappointing, but he can reverse that storyline quickly with a little surge of production.

With nine points in 11 games and back on the top line with Alex Ovechkin, the 28-year-old Swede is off to a good start to the season.
