Merkley (knee) was assigned to WHL Kelowna on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Merkley's development has been on hold since March, when he tore his ACL and had to have surgery. This was an expected move in order for Merkley to refine his game. He's produced 196 points (62 goals, 134 assists) in three seasons at the junior level.

Merkley (knee) was cleared for contact Monday and is looking to participate in rookie camp in two weeks, the Arizona Republic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Merkley is a notable prospect within the Coyotes organization, with the club thinking it landed a steal by taking him 30th overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. He's known as an aggressive two-way winger who carries a bit of a mean streak, but his development had been put on hold having torn his ACL and undergoing surgery in March. Merkley, who racked up 196 points (62 goals, 134 helpers) in three seasons with WHL Kelowna, has two years remaining on his entry-level contract with the Coyotes

Merkley (upper body) was reassigned to Kelowna of the WHL.
EDGE Analysis
This was to be expected for the Coyotes' first round pick, but the upper body injury he suffered in camp brought it about sooner. Merkley will spend the year playing in the WHL and look to build on the 90 point campaign he put up last year.

Merkley will be sidelined for the next two weeks with an upper-body injury, NHL.com's Dave Vest reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's an ill-timed injury for the rookie, as he was expected to compete for an opening day roster spot with the Coyotes in training camp. Now that he is scheduled to miss a significant portion of Arizona's camp, his chances of opening the season with the big club have likely taken a major hit.
