Rantanen agreed to an eight-year, $96 million contract extension with Dallas on Friday, per Darren Dreger of TSN.
EDGE Analysis
Rantanen was acquired by Dallas from Carolina earlier in the day. It was the second time he had been dealt this season, but his new contract includes a full no-movement clause, so he won't need to worry about any additional trades for the foreseeable future. Rantanen has 27 goals and 70 points in 62 appearances in 2024-25. Although the 28-year-old might see some decline during the second half of his new contract, Rantanen should be one of the Stars' best forwards for years to come.

Rantanen has been acquired by Dallas from Carolina on Friday in exchange for Logan Stankoven, two first-round picks and two third-round selections, Emily Kaplan of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rantanen is also closing in on an eight-year extension with Dallas. The Hurricanes acquired the star winger from Colorado on Jan. 24, but it seems they weren't able to agree to a contract extension, so the Hurricanes ultimately elected to flip him to Dallas rather than risk losing him as an unrestricted free agent over the summer. Although Rantanen was limited to two goals and six points in 13 outings with the Hurricanes, he still has 27 goals and 70 points in 62 appearances overall this season, and he recorded over 40 goals and 100 points in each of the 2022-23 and 2023-24 campaigns. He should find success with Dallas, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him play alongside Jason Robertson at both even strength and on the power play.

Rantanen registered an assist, took two shots on goal and had two hits in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Oilers.
EDGE Analysis
Rantanen's helper was on the power play as he helped linemate Sebastian Aho score the lone goal of the game for Carolina. The 28-year-old Rantanen is up to 43 assists, 70 points and 165 shots on net across 59 games this season. The Finnish superstar is the 10th player to eclipse the 70-point mark this season. Since joining the Hurricanes on Jan. 25, Rantanen has six points in 10 games. He got off to a slower start with Carolina but has picked up the pace with four points in as many games after the break for the 4 Nations Face-Off.

Rantanen scored the game-winning goal on the power play and added an even-strength assist in Thursday's 5-2 victory over the Sabres.
EDGE Analysis
Both points came in the first period as the Hurricanes surged out to a 3-0 lead they would never relinquish. It was Rantanen's first multi-point performance -- and first game-winning goal -- with his new squad, and in three games since play resumed following the 4 Nations Face-Off, the 28-year-old winger has a goal and three points. Rantanen has had a quiet start to his Carolina tenure, but he could be hitting his stride.

Rantanen scored a goal for Finland in a 4-3 overtime win over Sweden on Saturday at the 4 Nations Face-Off in Montreal.
EDGE Analysis
Rantanen cashed in on a power play with 14 seconds left in the first period. He took a cross-ice pass from Patrik Laine and nearly flubbed the shot. The puck wobbled and fluttered but still went past Swedish starter Filip Gustavsson to give Finland a 2-1 lead. Rantanen came into the tourney on a three-game scoring drought and has just two points (one goal, one assist) in six games in his new NHL jersey.

Rantanen (lower body) is on his way to Montreal and is expected to play for Team Finland in the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament, according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Rantanen missed Saturday's game against Utah, but his ailment was seemingly a minor one. His availability is crucial for a Finland squad that will be without star blueliner Miro Heiskanen (knee). The Finns will face Team USA on Thursday.

Rantanen (lower body) won't play against Utah on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Rantanen sustained the injury from blocking a shot in Thursday's 2-1 loss to Minnesota. He has generated one goal, one assist and 21 shots on net in six games with the Hurricanes after being acquired from Colorado on Jan. 24. Due to Rantanen's absence, Carolina will dress 11 forwards and seven defensemen in Saturday's lineup, with Scott Morrow drawing back in after being a healthy scratch in Thursday's defeat.

Rantanen scored his 26th goal of the season in Thursday's 3-2 win over Chicago.
EDGE Analysis
His first goal with Carolina came on a counterattack early in the second period, as Rantanen took a drop pass from Jack Roslovic before going five-hole on Arvid Soderblom. Rantanen has two points over three games since the trade from the Avalanche, and his scoring pace should pick up once he gets more comfortable in his new system and Carolina's roster gets back to full strength -- both Sebastian Aho and Taylor Hall were sidelined due to an illness Thursday.

Rantanen picked up an assist in Tuesday's 4-0 win over the Rangers.
EDGE Analysis
Acquired from the Avalanche late last week, Rantanen collected his first point as a member of the Hurricanes in his second game for his new squad, flipping a pass to Andrei Svechnikov past a sprawling Igor Shesterkin for an easy tap-in late in the second period. Rantanen appears to be developing chemistry with his new teammates quickly, and even though he's no longer skating with Nathan MacKinnon, the 28-year-old still figures to thrive as one of the focal points of the Carolina offense. Through 51 appearances this season, Rantanen has 25 goals and 65 points.

Rantanen was traded to the Hurricanes from the Avalanche via the Blackhawks in a three-way deal Friday, Emily Kaplan of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rantanen is the biggest player in the trade, but it's a blockbuster on multiple levels. The pending unrestricted free agent goes from riding alongside Nathan MacKinnon in Colorado to a spot alongside countryman Sebastian Aho in Carolina. Chicago was involved in the trade to retain 50 percent of Rantanen's cap hit to make the money work for the Hurricanes. Additional aspects of the trade will see Taylor Hall join Rantanen in Carolina, while Martin Necas and Jack Drury head to Colorado. The Blackhawks will also get their own third-round pick in 2025 back after dealing it away in a previous trade, while the Avalanche will get a second-round pick in 2025 and a fourth-round pick in 2026, per Kaplan.
