The workhorse should be rolled out with confidence right now as Calgary tries to remain in the playoff picture.

Smith allowed six goals on 27 shots in a 7-4 loss to the Lightning on Thursday. He was pulled after 46:22 and replaced by David Rittich.

Smith has been having a career resurgence, but this was an ugly outing. This is the fifth-straight loss for the 35-year-old, and this game had a real impact on his numbers. Smith had a 2.41 GAA before this contest, but that number is now up to 2.50.

It's still a matchup to stay away from on Thursday's 12-game slate -- at least in terms of choosing goaltenders.

Smith gave up three goals on 34 shots in Tuesday's loss to the Golden Knights.

It looked as if Smith would get the victory until Vegas scored twice in a span of 10 seconds late in the game to take the lead. The collapse can mostly be attributed to the Flames' horrendous defense, but it would have been nice to see Smith come up with a huge save to bail his team out. The veteran netminder has been playing very well despite a four-game losing streak. The Flames will be back in the win column soon, and with a .925 save percentage, the workhorse Smith makes for a quality fantasy option in the cage.

Unfortunately for Smith, Vegas has made life miserable for goaltenders all season, as they rank second in the NHL for goals scored per game (3.38), and ninth for shots on net per contest (33.1). The 35-year-old will need his best stuff as he attempts to stifle the high-flying offense.

Smith was again the hard-luck loser, stopping 25 of 27 shots in a 2-1 overtime defeat to Los Angeles on Monday.

EDGE Analysis

Smith was once again sharp throughout the night, but when his team, but it wasn't good enough with his team scoring a grand total of three goals in three games. Only once this month has he conceded more than twice in an evening, and given that the only issue has been the Flames' offense, he should remain a fixture in fantasy lineups in all formats.

Smith will get the starting nod against the Kings on Wednesday.

In his last eight outings, Smith is undefeated in regulation, as he posted a 6-0-2 record with a 1.84 GAA. The netminder will look to keep rolling versus a struggling Los Angeles squad that is 3-7-0 in its previous 10 contests. With the veteran between the pipes Wednesday, backup David Rittich will likely get the second half of the Flames' back-to-back against the Oilers on Thursday -- although coach Glen Gulutzan could opt to start Smith in both games with the NHL All-Star Game providing some extra time off.

Smith saved 31 of 33 shots during Monday's 2-1 overtime loss to Buffalo.

The veteran has collected six wins through his past eight starts without losing in regulation during that stretch. The strong run has him sporting a .926 save percentage and 2.41 GAA for the campaign, and because of Smith's huge workload (40 starts already), he's proving to be an excellent asset.
