Mikael Samuelsson will get back into Detroit's lineup Thursday night. He'll play against Phoenix after he was a healthy scratch last Saturday against Boston. Samuelsson will replace Tomas Tatar in the lineup.

Mikael Samuelsson is healthy and playing well for the Detroit Red Wings. Samuelsson had a real tough season in 2012-13 as he managed to play in only four games. He likely would have been bought out in the off-season had he been healthy but the new CBA does not allow teams to buy out injured players so Samuelsson was spared. He scored in the opener and could be a nice and unexpected contributor to the Red Wings this season. We do not recommend him at this time but take a wait-and-see approach for the veteran.

Mikael Samuelsson scored Detroit's first goal of the season in Wednesday's win against Buffalo. He played on the team's fourth line and logged just 8:27 of ice time, but that didn't stop him from contributing to the Wings' 2-1 victory. Cory Emmerton, who cleared waivers prior to the start of the season, picked up an assist on Samuelsson's marker.

Mikael Samuelsson is battling for a roster spot at Detroit's training camp. "The pressure is on right away. If you can't handle it, you shouldn't be here," he said. "It's fun, too - you've got to look at it that way. For me, I have to earn a spot." He is competing with Tomas Tatar, Gustav Nyquist, Todd Bertuzzi, Patrick Eaves and Jordin Tootoo for a 2013-14 spot. Samuelsson has a lot to prove after last season's injury-plagued campaign. He probably would've been bought out by the Red Wings this past summer had he been healthy at the time.

Mikael Samuelsson is eager to put his rough 2013 campaign behind him. Samuelsson had just one assist in four games due to a variety of injuries. "You realize how much fun the game is when you're away from the game," Samuelsson said. "I haven't played (hockey in a while). I needed a good summer. I had a good summer. I'm healthy. It's a good feeling to wake up and feel like I do. When you're feeling good and strong it feels exciting." If he can stay healthy in 2013-14, and there's no guarantee that he will, he should end up with 40-50 points.

Mikael Samuelsson said he feels 100 percent heading into training camp. He suited up in just four games last season, while missing action with a sore groin, a broken finger and a pectoral injury. Samuelsson has one year left on his contract and it carries a $3 million cap hit.

Detroit GM Ken Holland expects Mikael Samuelsson (pectoral muscle) to be ready for training camp. He didn't need off-season shoulder surgery, but spent most of the lockout-shortened season on the sidelines due to injuries. Samuelsson played in only four regular season matches and five playoff games for the Red Wings last year.

If they have the option, the Red Wings might use a compliance buyout on Mikael Samuelsson. Samuelsson reportedly doesn't need shoulder surgery, but he still needs to be healthy in order to be bought out. The buyout window opens 48 hours after the Stanley Cup Final. Samuelsson comes with a $3 million annual cap hit, but a compliance buyout would completely remove that.

Mikael Samuelsson might need off-season shoulder surgery. The injury bothered him throughout the playoffs. Samuelsson finished the postseason with a sore pectoral muscle and he spent most the regular season on the sidelines as well.

Mikael Samuelsson is still day-to-day with a sore pectoral muscle. Samuelsson originally sustained the injury on March 31 and returned to play in the first round against the Ducks, playing in the final five games of the series. He had a goal and an assist against Anaheim but has yet to play in round 2. Consider him questionable for Monday's contest.
