DAILY PRIME - JULY 6, 2013: DEREK ROY SIGNS WITH ST. LOUIS; CHICAGO... primepucks.com Sat 7/6/13 11:11 AM

CENTER DEREK ROY JUST SIGNED A ONE YEAR DEAL WITH ST. LOUIS The Blues just signed Derek Roy to a one year contract worth $4 million. Roy had a tough year last season splitting between Vancouver and Dallas.  The 30 year old scored only 28 points in 42 games.  Roy is somewhat small at 5'9" and 180 lbs., but he does have speed and skill, while scoring a career high 81 points with the Buffalo Sabres in 2007-2008.  He is a bit of a sleeper as he has the potential to score 60 points on the Blues team. CHICAGO SIGNS NIKOLAI KHABIBULIN TO A ONE YEAR DEAL The Blackhawks have signed 40 year Nikolai Khabibulin to a one year deal worth $1.7 million to be the back-up goaltender to starter Corey Crawford. With Ray Emery gone to Philadelphia, Chicago needed a back-up goalie. Khabibulin played in 11 games last season as the back-up to Devan Dubnyk in Edmonton, going 4-6-1 with a .923 SP and a 2.54 GAA. The Blackhawks are hoping he can play 12 -15 games this year to spell Crawford.  He has no fantasy value, because if Crawford were to have a serious injury, the Blackhawks would get another goalie, as Khabibulin is no longer capable of being a full time starter. CHICAGO ALSO SIGNED DEFENSEMAN MICHAL ROSZIVAL TO A TWO YEAR DEAL The former Ranger was instrumental in the Blackhawks winning the Stanley Cup. He is a stay at home defenseman with good size, very important in the NHL, but not so much in fantasy hockey.  He had only 12 assists in 29 games, but he did have a plus 18 rating. FORWARD MICHAL HANDZUS SIGNED A ONE YEAR DEAL WITH CHICAGO Like Roszival, Handzus is the kind of player a team needs to win the Stanley Cup. He is big at 6'4" and 220 lbs.  He works hard in the corners, and pushes his weight around.  Unfortunately, he is not much of a scorer, as he had only 8 points last year in 39 games between Chicago and San Jose.  He did score 11 points in 23 playoff games, but don't expect much scoring from him this year.
