The 32-year-old Raffl has been a modest contributor on offense with six points, 21 shots on net and 31 hits through 16 games. He'll likely continue to play in a middle-six role for much of the season, but his fantasy value will be limited to deeper formats.

With many of the Stars' other forwards struggling, Raffl could be worth a look as a short-term option in fantasy.

Raffl opened the scoring just 4:34 into the game, tapping home an Alexander Radulov centering feed for his first goal in a Dallas uniform. Raffl, a longtime Flyer who was dealt to Washington at last year's trade deadline, skated on the left side of Dallas' line with Radek Faksa and Denis Gurianov. That's a unit that should be able to chip in offensively for the Stars, but none of the three has particularly high fantasy upside.

Raffl signed a one-year, $1.1 million deal with Dallas on Thursday.

EDGE Analysis

Raffl figures to slot into a bottom-six role with the Stars while also pushing for the 20-point mark. The Austrian winger will certainly add some grit and physicality given he registered 71 hits in 44 games for Washington and Philadelphia last year.

Raffl registered a goal on four shots and dished out three hits Tuesday in a 2-1 win over Boston.

Raffl potted the game-winner with 1.8 seconds left in the third period, roofing a shot past Boston netminder Jeremy Swayman from a near-impossible angle along the goal line. It was Raffl's first goal in 10 games since being acquired from Philadelphia at the trade deadline. The 32-year-old had entered the regular-season finale with just two assists as a Capital.

Raffl picked up two assists in Monday's 6-3 win over the Rangers.

The Caps needed some lesser lights to step up with the forward ranks thinned for various reasons, and Raffl responded with his first points in six games for the team. Between Washington and Philly this season, the 32-year-old has three goals and 10 points through 40 contests.
