Maxim Lapierre will be tried out at right wing in Thursday's game versus the New York Islanders. The Blues miss Ryan Reaves, who is sidelined with a broken hand, and so they'll try Lapierre on the fourth line to try to provide energy and bang along the boards. He will skate with Magnus Paajarvi and Derek Roy in the contest.

Maxim Lapierre is projected to center the fourth line in his return from a five-game suspension. Lapierre was punished for his hit from behind on San Jose's Dan Boyle. His linemates will probably be Adam Cracknell and Ryan Reaves.

We miss his personality in the locker room. He's got an enthusiasm to compete and play. I'm really looking forward to getting him back." The NHL has requested an in-person hearing with St. Louis forward Maxim Lapierre for his hit from behind on San Jose's Dan Boyle. The incident occurred Tuesday night and it earned Lapierre a five-minute major and a game misconduct. Boyle was injured on the play and he left the ice on a stretcher. According to Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports, the hearing will take place on Friday. Lapierre could be facing a lengthy suspension for the hit because he's a repeat offender and Boyle was hurt on the play.

Maxim Lapierre scored twice in his preseason debut as the St. Louis Blues beat the Dallas Stars 6-5 with a shootout in their preseason opener Sunday. Lapierre's goals allowed the Blues to tie the game in the first period after Dallas had taken a 2-0 lead on goals by Erik Cole and Kevin Connauton. Tyler Seguin, playing in a game for the first time with Dallas after being traded to the Stars by the Boston Bruins, put the Stars ahead 3-2 on a power play goal in the second period before Sebastian Wannstrom tied it 3-3 on a nice wrist shot. Valeri Nichushkin restored the one-goal lead for Dallas on a nice wrist shot of his own in the dying seconds of the second period. In the third, Adam Cracknell scored for St. Louis to make it 4-4. Nichushkin backhanded one in for his second of the night. Ryan Reaves made it 5-5 at 11:03 of the third, setting up a goalless overtime period and then the shootout. Jake Allen stopped 33 of the 38 shots he faced as the Blues' goaltender.

The St. Louis Blues want Maxim Lapierre to play a physical and agitating style. "We're going to turn him loose to where he was two years ago a little bit more," coach Ken Hitchcock said. "So he's going to be able to play with a more physical edge just based on (the Blues') personnel." He's slated to center the fourth line and be flanked by Vladimir Sobotka on the left and either Chris Porter, Adam Cracknell or Ryan Reaves on the right. Lapierre is good on faceoffs, throws plenty of hits and can pick up penalty minutes, but he won't provide much in the way of offense.

Center Maxim Lapierre signed a two-year, $2.2-million contract with the Blues as a free agent this summer but St. Louis was by no means his first choice. Lapierre says he wanted first and foremost to return to his old team, the Montreal Canadiens. "I did everything I could to get back with the Canadiens, but I did not figure in their plans," Lapierre is quoted as saying. The veteran spent his first five and a half seasons in the NHL with Montreal before being traded to Anaheim on New Year's Eve in 2010.
