Nieto (lower body) will not skate against the Oilers on Sunday, David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News reports.
This will be the second-straight game that Nieto stays off the ice. His next opportunity to skate will be Tuesday when the Sharks and Oilers complete the second game of their home-and-home series in San Jose.

Nieto will not play Saturday due to a lower body injury, CSN Bay Area reports.
Nieto will take a seat Saturday, and look to return for a Sunday afternoon contest against the Oilers. Look for Tye McGinn or Barclay Goodrow to see reps on the Sharks' third or fourth lines as a result, though neither are likely high-percentage fantasy plays.

Nieto scored the game-winning goal in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Flyers, putting the puck in the net with just 12 seconds remaining.
It's his second straight game with a goal, though Friday's tally came into an empty net. Nieto's not much known for his scoring -- with nine points in 25 games, he's clipping along at about the same pace as last year.

Nieto will join Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski on the Sharks' second line Tuesday versus the Bruins, David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News reports.
After an uninspiring 4-0 loss to the Rangers over the weekend, coach Todd McLellan will shake up his lines in the hopes of revitalizing the offense. Nieto has gone without a point in his last three games after getting off to a hot start to the season, but playing with talents like Pavelski and Thornton could help spark the youngster's production. The line arrangement isn't expected to last long-term, but Nieto might make for an inexpensive, high-quality speculative play in daily formats Tuesday.

Nieto is expected to open the season on the Sharks' second line, working at right wing alongside Logan Couture and Patrick Marleau, CSNBayArea.com's Kevin Kurz reports.
Nieto is coming off an up-and-down rookie season in which he compiled 24 points in 66 games, but he was at least able to capitalize on his considerable speed on a few occasions during the campaign to get the Sharks excited about his future. Though Nieto doesn't offer the upside of a top-flight scorer like that of teammate Tomas Hertl, opportunities to pick up points should still become plentiful for the 21-year-old, especially if he ends up sticking on the second line.

Right winger Matt Nieto expects a bigger role with the San Jose Sharks next season.
In 66 games with San Jose last season, the right winger had 14 goals and 10 assists. He recognizes expectations have changed for him. "Yeah, I think next year I want to build off last season. I want to contribute more, I want to bring more to the table," Nieto said. "I'm sure all the rest of the guys in the locker room are saying that, too. What happened last year is unacceptable." The increased role for younger players likely would come at the expense of playing time for veterans such as Joe Thornton or Patrick Marleau, but Nieto doesn't see that as making things awkward in the locker room. "We're a tight group. I think all of us will do whatever it takes to win," Nieto said. "Whatever their roles, whatever the coach wants from them or expects from them I think guys are going to do."
