Matt Duchene blasted his Frolunda teammates Tuesday night, but clarified a day later to say his comments were blown out of proportion. Following the 2-0 loss, Duchene criticized the effort level of some of his teammates, praising Joel Lundqvist but calling others' play "unacceptable." He continued, per hockeysverige.se: "If this was in the NHL, five players would be sent down to the minors after a game like this. But here, players are too comfortable. There are 33 million Canadians that would sacrifice an arm to play hockey at this level." Duchene, who has nine points in 12 games, told Adrian Dater of the Denver Post that he included himself in those comments and that Swedish reports did not include the good things he said about his teammates.

Matt Duchene has potted a goal and registered six assists so far for Frolunda of the Swedish Elite League. Duchene had a troubling year both from an injury and production standpoint last season. He managed only 14 goals and 28 points, his worst season of three in the NHL. He'll look to rebound this season, if there is one.

Matt Duchene scored a goal in Frolunda's 3-1 victory over Timra in Swedish Elite League action Saturday. In the few short weeks he has spent in Sweden, Duchene has developed chemistry with Blackhawks' winger Viktor Stalberg. As is his style, Duchene has played the role of effective playmaker to Stalberg's finisher.

Matt Duchene has no plans to play hockey in Europe at this time. Duchene says he may re-think things if the NHL lockout lasts all season. Duchene had an injury plagued season in 2011-12 and managed only 14 goals and 28 points, his worst season of three in the NHL. He'll look to rebound this season, if there is a season.

Mark Kiszla of the Denver Post thinks that the Colorado Avalanche should deal Matt Duchene. The Avs are strong up the middle with Duchene, Paul Stastny and Ryan O'Reilly and Kiszla thinks the team will be better served with a top-notch winger (Bobby Ryan or Rick Nash) rather than a plethora of talent down the middle as one center's talents will be wasted if they continue to keep all three. An interesting perspective as it could make sense, especially to the Ducks or Blue Jackets who have disgruntled wingers on their respective squads.

As part of a summer where he hopes to turn things around, Colorado Avalanche center Matt Duchene is spending part of his off-season training with Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby. Duchene had a troubling year both from an injury and production standpoint last season. While fellow high draft pick John Tavares signed a big deal, Duchene settled for a modest two-year, $7 million pact - less than teammate David Jones. The skill's there for Duchene, but he has plenty more to work on. Perhaps improved fitness will help him turn things around.

Matt Duchene has inked a two-year/$7 million contract extension with the Colorado Avalanche. Duchene will earn $3.25 million in 2012-13 and $3.75 million in 2013-14. After a disappointing and injury-riddled season, it's not shocking that Duchene only got two years. Still, the decision not to sign Duchene to a longer term contract could hurt Colorado down the road as he's likely to bounce back in a big way.

Matt Duchene acknowledges that he didn't enjoy the greatest season, but he's unsure how this will affect the contract he receives as a restricted free agent. "Tough year to base what I'm worth, but I also had two pretty darn good years before this, and I'm only going to be better from this experience," Duchene said. "I can't emphasize enough how much I want to be a part of this franchise, but at the same time I have to do what's right for me as well. I really hope things work out, and I'm sure they will. I'm hoping they still have me as a big part of the plan here." Duchene struggled by amassing only 28 points in 58 games this season, but he should be considered one of the best bounce-back candidates next year.

Matt Duchene scored his 14th goal of the season in Colorado's embarrassing 6-1 loss at the hands of the Predators. That will put an end to Duchene's disappointing 2011-12 campaign. So much was expected of the 21-year-old in his third NHL season but he was really a huge flop. It remains to be seen if Duchene can rally and come into training camp in September with a new start and a fresh attitude. The Avs' are certainly hoping that is the case.
