Make it five goals for Matt Duchene in his past four games. The talented center helped the Colorado Avalanche get back on the winning track with a goal and an assist in a 4-2 victory over the Sabres in Buffalo Saturday night. Duchene has seven points in his past four games. Gabriel Landeskog and Ryan O'Reilly matched Duchene Saturday, each producing a goal and an assist in Buffalo. Paul Statsny also scored for the Avs, who bounced back from their first loss of the season against Detroit on Thursday. The Avalanche scored four times in the first 32 minutes and that was more than enough against a Sabres team that has not scored more than three regulation goals all season.

Matt Duchene has four goals in his past three games, five total, most on the Colorado Avalanche. He has five points in the past three games, seven total, tied for the team lead. Keep an eye on him. Duchene, the third overall pick in the 2009 draft, scored 24 goals his first season and 27 his second. He dipped to 14 his third season, but he struggled with injuries - playing only 58 games, playing hurt. He scored 17 in the lockout-shortened, 48-game schedule last year, the equivalent of 29 over a full, 82-game campaign. At 22, he has grown up a bit. In his fifth NHL season, he understands the league and pro life better. With this style, with a coach in Patrick Roy who seeks his input, with more talent around him, with a whippier stick making the puck fly, he has a chance to show his skills. Hoping to make Team Canada for the Sochi Olympics as a winger, he has plenty of motivation. "I'm ready to take that next step," he said.

Coach Patrick Roy is pleased with what he's seen early into training camp from the duo of Matt Duchene and Ryan O'Reilly. "Wow. I thought it was a nice clinic out there," said Roy. "He and Ryan seem to work really well together." The two of them are slated to play with P.A. Parenteau on Colorado's top line this season and the trio will be tough to handle.

If the Colorado Avalanche stick to the plan to line up Matt Duchene and Ryan O'Reilly, then Duchene is on board. He just signed a five-year, $30 million contract extension. That might be a slight bummer to owners who were hoping for a contract year surge, yet with the chemistry he showed with P. A. Parenteau and the strengths of O'Reilly, things might even look up in 2013-14.

Matt Duchene is looking to continue his upward trend after his successful 2013 campaign. Duchene had 43 points in 47 games, which led to him being rewarded with a five-year, $30 million contract. It also put to rest any doubts people might have had about him after his rough 2011-12 campaign where he recorded 14 goals and 28 points in 58 contests. "It was a real tough year, but I wanted to try and use it to learn and get better," Duchene said. "But I'm not stopping now." Duchene is projected to play alongside O'Reilly and P.A. Parenteau next season.

Colorado Avalanche sign Matt Duchene to five-year contract extension. The deal will reportedly pay Duchene an average of $6 million over five years, which eclipses the $5 million annual cap charge Ryan O'Reilly signed for earlier this year. Duchene's contract will run through the 2018-19 season, which means he'll only be 28 when he his unrestricted free agency for the first time. Duchene led the Avs with 43 points in 46 games last season is one of the best fantasy centers in the game.

Matt Duchene chipped in three assists and added the winning goal in the shootout to lift Colorado to a 5-4 win over Phoenix in a battle of non-playoff bound teams. Duchene's numbers trailed off a bit down the stretch, but when looking at his 2013 campaign as a whole, his 43 points in 46 games has solidified his position as one of the best fantasy centres in the league despite playing on an awful Avs team.
