Matt Duchene registered a goal and an assist for Colorado in a 3-2 overtime win over the Red Wings Thursday. Duchene is riding a six-game scoring streak, during which he has accumulated 10 points. P.A. Parenteau and Andre Benoit were the other scorers for the Avalanche in the win.

Matt Duchene didn't feel like himself during Colorado's 6-4 loss to Los Angeles on Wednesday night, but he still contributed two assists. "I felt terrible all day, like I had the flu, but the adrenaline got going and I felt good on the ice," he said. "I thought our line played well, scoring three goals, but we didn't play hard enough down low. To give up five goals, that's disappointing. Two-goal lead, you have to step on their throat. We beat ourselves tonight." Duchene didn't have much time between playing and his return from Sochi after he won a gold medal with Canada. Once he gets used to the timezone change and gets his body back on track, he shouldn't have to rely solely an adrenaline to get him through.

Matt Duchene had a limited role with Team Canada, but he feels he gained valuable experience by being a part of a gold-medal winning team. "I'm learning how to win here," Duchene said. "I'm around winners on Team Canada, all day, every day. You look around the room and see all that Stanley Cup experience and all those Stanley Cup championships. You watch what those guys do. I'm a sponge." He added that he wants NHLers to return to the Winter Games in 2018. Duchene didn't have a point in four games at the tournament, but he'll return to Colorado with a gold medal and some newfound confidence. He leads the Avalanche with 50 points in 55 games this year.

Matt Duchene was a healthy scratch for Canada on Wednesday against Latvia, but he should draw back into the lineup for Friday's semifinal game because of a knee injury to John Tavares. Tavares won't play again in the tournament and Duchene will probably play if Team Canada continues to dress 13 forwards. He doesn't have a point in two games, but he does have four shots and a plus-1 rating.

The Canadian Olympic team drew only one penalty in their 2-1 overtime victory against Finland on Sunday and members of the team didn't like it. "You saw two penalties tonight (including one against Canada). There's a ton of obstruction. It's not getting called. I guess that's the nature of it," center Matt Duchene said. Added John Tavares: "Obviously it seemed like the whistles were put away for the most part. . .It can be frustrating, especially when sometimes you got a step on a guy."

Matt Duchene is expected to play Friday against Austria. He was a healthy scratch for Team Canada's Olympic opener versus Norway on Thursday. Duchene leads the Colorado Avalanche in scoring this season with 50 points 55 games. It isn't clear yet who will come out to make room for him. P.K. Subban will get into the lineup as well after he was scratched for Canada's first game as well.

Matt Duchene believes playing in the Olympic Games will help once the NHL resumes play. "I think it'll be really good for the guys that go over there, because the load that you carry on those teams isn't as big as the load we carry on these teams," he said. "Mentally it'll be more of a tiring thing than physically, but for me, I'm really happy, because I hate taking time off and getting out of my rhythm. And being around that kind of high-level hockey, I think it's really going to help me down the stretch with us." Duchene will probably play on the wing when he suits up for Canada in the tournament because of the team's depth down the middle.

Matt Duchene's first goal on Saturday was the 100th of his career. Duchene netted his 101th marker mere minutes after reaching the milestone. That second goal also proved to be his 14th career game winner. Duchene needed 321 games to reach that milestone. He has 19 goals and 50 points in 55 contests this season.

Duchene's two goals came in a span of about three minutes in the second period, his first since Jan. 18. He has 19 goals and 50 points. The Canadian Olympian enters the break with his first 70-point campaign within reach. Gabriel Landeskog picked up a goal and a helper, while Nathan MacKinnon and Paul Stastny also tickled the twine. Tyson Barrie finished with three assists.

Colorado's top line of Matt Duchene, Ryan O'Reilly and Jamie McGinn finished Tuesday's contest with a combined minus-15 rating. The three of them were on the ice for all five goals against in a 5-1 loss to the New York Rangers. Duchene's four-game assist streak also came to an end in the match. Look for Duchene, O'Reilly and McGimm to rebound on Thursday in Philadelphia.
