Donovan re-signed with AHL Milwaukee on a two-year extension Friday.

Donovan played 52 games with the Islanders in the 2013-14 season, but since then he's mostly plied his trade in the minors. With Dan Hamhuis (leg) out, the Predators have called the Oklahoma native up for depth. However, they already had Matt Irwin on the roster as an extra defenseman, so Donovan may not see much playing time.

Donovan has been lightning it up with AHL Milwaukee to start the year with six goals and six helpers through the first 13 games. The 26-year-old blueliner is quite talented, having been named to the All-Rookie squad with AHL Bridgeport in 2011-12, and there's a chance that he'll be able to resurrect his career overseas.

Donovan should be assigned to AHL Rochester to get additional playing time. He served as a healthy scratch prior to this move. The former fourth round pick of the Islanders had a great season in the AHL, scoring 21 points in 27 games, but couldn't translate that success to the Islanders. Donovan should be one of the first people called up in the event of an injury.

Donovan has yet to play a game this season and with Jake McCabe getting called up the Sabres are probably assigning Donovan to AHL Rochester to get him some playing time. He should get a chance to re-join the big club this season if he plays well.

The Sabres signed Donovan to a one-year deal Wednesday, the Buffalo News reports. Donovan, who notched three assists in 12 games for the Islanders last season, gives the Sabres' blue line another left-handed shot, but his fantasy value in a depth role for Buffalo figures to be modest.

Donovan will reenter the Isles' lineup Thursday against the Blues, Newsday's Arthur Staple reports. A slew of injuries to the Isles' blue line have allowed Donovan to enter the lineup with more regularity of late, but he headed to the press box for Tuesday's game following the call-up of Griffin Reinhart. The two blueliners will swap places Thursday night, allowing Donovan to make his sixth appearance of the season. He's produced two assists while averaging 18:54 of ice time.

Matt Donovan has taken the Islanders' one-year qualifying offer. Donovan's deal is two-ways and will pay him $826,875 annually at the NHL level. He had two goals and 16 points in 52 games with the Islanders last season.
