He's in a top-four role and on track to surpass his career high of 25 points from the 2018-19 campaign, but his fantasy appeal is limited to deeper formats.

Pettersson was able to end a six-game pointless streak with his multi-point performance Thursday. The defenseman has been very streaky in terms of offensive production, producing points in just four of his last 13 games, but he generated at least two points in each of those outings for a combined 10 points. Pettersson isn't a factor on the power play but does benefit from pairing with Kris Letang at even strength.

Pettersson notched four assists with one blocked shot and a plus-5 rating in Wednesday's 7-0 win over the Islanders.

Skating alongside Kris Letang has its perks. While Letang was setting an NHL record for a defenseman with a five-point second period, Pettersson nabbed three helpers of his own, before chipping in one more on Pittsburgh's final goal of the night in the third. The four points were a career high for the 27-year-old, but it was his third multi-point performance in the last four games. On the season, Pettersson has 14 points (all assists) in 33 games with 56 blocked shots, 39 hits, 37 shots on net, 20 PIM and a plus-17 rating.

Pettersson brought a seven-game pointless streak to a close but has yet to score a goal this season. Considering the Swedish blueliner has reached the 20-point threshold just twice in his NHL career, fantasy players probably should be expecting him to go on long-term scoring slumps.

Pettersson recorded an assist, two blocked shots and five PIM in Wednesday's 6-3 loss to the Red Wings.

Pettersson fought Dylan Larkin late in the second period before adding an assist in the Penguins' failed comeback in the third. This was Pettersson's second helper of the season, the first coming back on Opening Night. The 27-year-old defenseman already has 10 PIM to go with five shots on net, nine blocked shots, three hits and a plus-3 rating over four contests. He's worked with Erik Karlsson on the second pairing at even strength.

Pettersson (lower body) will be in the lineup against the Blue Jackets on Thursday, Penguins radio play-by-play announcer Josh Getzoff reports.

Pettersson will suit up for the first time since March 18 versus the Rangers, a stretch of 12 games on the shelf for the blueliner. Unfortunately, the 26-year-old Swede's return is a little too late as the Penguins have already been eliminated from the playoffs. Despite playing in just 67 games this year, Pettersson has already tied his career best in assists (23), shots (95) and hits (130).

Pettersson (lower body) is on track to be a game-time decision for Thursday's regular-season finale versus the Blue Jackets, Wes Crosby of NHL.com reports.

Pettersson's status against Columbus may not be confirmed until the Penguins hit the ice for pregame warmups. The 26-year-old defender has missed the last 12 contests with a lower-body injury.

Pettersson (lower body) traveled with the team and skated ahead of Tuesday's matchup with New Jersey.
