With Travis Hamonic shipped out to Ottawa and Travis Dermott brought in from Toronto, Schenn's role isn't expected to change too much as the Canucks remain on the fringe of the playoff race.

The 32-year-old defenseman doesn't add much on offense usually -- he's at 11 points, 41 shots on net, 164 hits, 58 blocked shots, 30 PIM and a plus-14 rating in 38 appearances.

Schenn scored a goal on three shots, crushed eight hits, blocked four shots and added five PIM in Wednesday's 6-3 loss to the Islanders.

Physical as ever, Schenn channeled the Canucks' ire in this contest. He fought Ross Johnston in the first period, but the Islanders scored twice in 21 seconds following the scrap. Schenn then made an impact in the second period with his goal to cut the score to 5-3, but that was close as it got. The defenseman is up to three goals, 10 points, 135 hits, 40 blocked shots, 38 shots on net and 24 PIM in 32 appearances. Two of his tallies have come in the last four games, but fantasy managers shouldn't count on the 32-year-old becoming a reliable scorer.

Schenn has long been regarded for his physical play, but the 12 hits were a career high for the veteran defenseman. He's picked up a goal and two assists in his last three games, but he's at just nine points through 29 contests overall. The 32-year-old has added 117 hits, 35 blocked shots, 19 PIM and a plus-8 rating this season while playing in a bottom-four role.

Schenn notched two assists, five PIM, three shots on net and three hits in Thursday's 5-1 win over the Jets.

Schenn helped out on both of J.T. Miller's second-period tallies. The 32-year-old Schenn also fought with Adam Lowry in the third period of the lopsided game. In 12 games since the holiday break, Schenn has produced three helpers, 46 hits, nine PIM and 10 shots on net. The veteran defenseman is more of a physical presence in the bottom four, as he's notched eight points, 104 hits, 19 PIM and a plus-7 rating through 27 contests this season.

Schenn logged four hits in a 3-1 win over the Predators on Tuesday.

EDGE Analysis

Schenn has been quiet offensively this season, as he has scored just three points over his last 18 games since coming off the IR (undisclosed) against Pittsburgh Nov. 24. The veteran defenseman has not put up double-digit points in a season since he had 11 points with the Kings in 2015.

Schenn (not injury related) practiced with the team Monday after clearing the league's COVID-19 protocols, Ben Kuzma of The Vancouver Province reports.

EDGE Analysis

Schenn has appeared in just 15 games with the blueliner's this season in which he recorded one goal on 18 shots, four assists and 58 hits while averaging 16:16 of ice time. Even if the 32-year-old defenseman is fit enough to play against Seattle on Dec. 27, he figures to offer mid-range fantasy value at best and will be hard-pressed to get back over the 20-point threshold.

Schenn has entered the NHL's COVID-19 protocol and will not play Tuesday against the Blue Jackets.

Schenn will need to record two negative COVID tests before returning to the ice. He has five points through 15 contests along with 58 hits and a plus-6 rating.
