Injury: Loui Eriksson update: dealing with concussion-like symptoms... dailyfaceoff.com Thu 10/24/13 2:56 PM

Eriksson won't be available when the Bruins take on the Sharks tonight. He left Wednesday's game after being hit high by Sabres forward John Scott. Brad Marchand moves back to the second line with Eriksson out.

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE - 10/13/2013 primepucks.com Sun 10/13/13 8:46 AM

Good morning hockey fans. Happy Thanksgiving! I guess I have to start with Tomas Hertl. What an amazing start by the Shark rookie.  Do you think the Alex Edler hit was a message for the disrespect show to Ranger goaltender Marty Biron?  Remember, Tortorella was Biron's coach the past few seasons. San Jose, Colorado and St, Louis are undefeated as is Calgary but they have 2 OTL. Who woulda thunk it about Colorado and especially Calgary?  I know, it's early. The NY Rangers and the Edmonton Oilers have given up the most goals so far this season; 25. I thought the Blueshirts defense was better than that.  I'm sure they will turn it around, don't you? New Jersey doesn't have a win yet? I know they miss Kovalchuk but this is ridiculous.  I thought they had tremendous goaltending? I would like to extend a warm welcome to the newest NHL franchise, the Columbus Blue Jackets. They are finally playing alike an NHL club. And, they are fun to watch. The first game for Hockey Night In Canada last night paired two up and coming exciting teams, the Oilers and Maple Leafs. And they didn't disappoint with a 6-5 overtime doozy. The Detroit Red Wings seem to like playing in the Eastern Conference. I'm sure the Boston Bruins are happy that Loui Eriksson finally got on the board last night; but not as happy as the Dallas Stars are with budding Superstar Tyler Seguin's 4-point night against the Jets on Friday. Yakupov being scratched from the Oiler lineup against the Leafs really messed with their defense, lol. Pavel Datsyuk is just amazing. I think Sidney Crosby had enough of this Hertl frenzy, so he went out and scored a hat trick. Patrick Roy and the Colorado Avalanche are another feel-good story early on. Semyon Varlamov is playing like Patrick Roy. Or maybe, he IS Patrick Roy in net? The Sabres lost again last night and have no wins but don't blame G Ryan Miller. His numbers are actually really good.  2.29 GAA and A .941 SP....not too shabby. The Rangers were STEEN-rolled in St. Louis last night. I'll give them 20 games, just like it took the Washington Capitals a little while to get adjusted to Adam Oates game plan. The Nashville Predators finally played their type of game, limiting the NY Islanders to 16 shots on goal. Rookie defenseman scored his first NHL goal, on the power play.  Congrats! Dan Ellis is no Kari LEhtonen. Whatever happened to promising defenseman named Alex Goligoski? Boy, he certainly went south in the scoring department. Zach Parise had 7 SOG last...

DAILY PRIME - SEPTEMBER 27, 2013: PRESEASON FANTASY BITS; NHL IN 30... primepucks.com Fri 9/27/13 6:42 AM

After signing a one-year deal with the Florida Panthers, Former Vezina standout Tim Thomas played half of last night's game, allowing one goal in the 3-2 loss to Tampa Bay. He looks to have the inside track on the starting job, so his average draft position over the next few days should rise sharply. I was lucky enough to get him in the 20th round in one of my drafts... Super goalie sleeper Ben Bishop saved 26 of 28 shots for the Lightning and should be a lock to start on Opening Night. He has been available in the late rounds in many leagues. Cash in if you can. He can get 30+ wins and a few shutouts. We don't have much faith in Anders Lindback.. Oh,oh. Colorado goalie Semyon Varlamov looked brutal in the 5-0 loss to Dallas, giving up 5 goals on 24 shots. If he doesn't get off to a good start, there will be plenty of dissension in Avalanche country.. Roberto Luongo blanked the New York Rangers 5-0 to a tune of 41 saves. It's entirely possible that Luongo becomes the top fantasy goaltender AGAIN, so don't discount his potential greatness in '13-14.. Don't sleep on Boston's Loui Eriksson, who scored the overtime game-winner in the 3-2 win over Winnipeg. All the talk has centered on the arrival of future HOF'er Jarome Iginla, but the 3-time 70-point scorer will make a big fantasy impact on his new team. Mark it down... We like to extend our condolences to Martin Brodeur and his family, after the passing of his father and legendary photographer Denis Brodeur. How many of us have the image of Paul Henderson's legendary Summit Series winning goal in 1972 engrained in our minds? Thanks for the memories. NHL in 30-2013/14: BOSTON BRUINS primepucks.com Fri 9/27/13 4:52 AM

Embroiled in a heated battle against Chicago during last year's Stanley Cup Finals, Boston might have fallen short but they still have the eye on the prize again for '13-14. Gone are top-six forwards Nathan Horton,Tyler Seguin ,and Jaromir Jagr, but scoring was instantly complimented by the additions of Jarome Iginla and Loui Eriksson. The youth on the backend is ready to take the next step, as Dougie Hamilton and Torey Krug are coming. There is plenty of fantasy value on one of the elite NHL teams, and we haven't even mentioned their top three players: Zdeno Chara, Tuukka Rask, and Patrice Bergeron. Despite the vast array of talent, the Bruins as an overall unit remain under the fantasy radar. Goalies Finnish sensation Tuukka Rask resides in the Boston goal, where he remains arguably the top fantasy option in the crease. His numbers speak for themselves, posting the best save percentage of any goaltender having played over 100 games in the last four seasons. Barring injury, Rask may be in store for his largest workload to date with last season's no.2 Anton Khudobin gone to Carolina. New back-up Chad Johnson has been impressive in limited NHL duty, going 3-2-3 with a 1.97 GAA and a .929 SP. Despite the good numbers, don't expect more than 20 starts for him. Defense On defense, fantasy owners need to forgive the great Zdeno Chara for his fewest points-per-game effort (0.40) since '07-08, considering the 36-year old excels in so many facets of the game. Over the last 3 seasons, the hulking defender leads all defensemen in plus/minus, while finishing fourth in goals (33), 9th in pts (115) and 6th in PIM (244). In addition, reports from camp have Coach Claude Julien is experimenting with "Big Z" in different areas on power-play unit, whether down low or at the point, in an effort to maximize his talents to bolster their anemic scoring with the man-advantage. He figures to play a larger role on the PP, which can only help his numbers. After Chara, 20-year old Dougie Hamilton will look to build on a strong rookie campaign, where he scored 16 pts in 42 games. Having played in all types of situations, the young blueliner looks poised to make a big scoring jump. However, keep note that last year's early playoff rookie sensation Torey Krug, who scored 4 goals in his first 5 games against the Rangers, has been utilized in training camp on the top power-play in place of Hamilton with positive results. Krug's fantasy stock is definitely on the rise, so take notice ...

DAILY PRIME - SEPTEMBER 13, 2013: PIETRANGELO ENDS HOLDOUT; TRAININ... primepucks.com Fri 9/13/13 7:46 AM

St. Louis Blues defenseman Alex Pietrangelo came to terms on a 7-year contract ending what turned out to be a very short holdout. This is not only good news for Blues fans, but also fantasy owners who can expect the talented young d-man to not only lead the Blues back line but also challenge his previous career high in points of 51 back in 2011-2012. Training Camp Bits: Newly-signed Nazem Kadri getting an early look on Phil Kessel's line in Toronto. Meanwhile, Joffrey Lupul remains day-to-day with a back injury. Already?... In Montreal, veteran Daniel Briere is temporarily shifted to wing and is playing with Max Pacioretty and David Desharnais. I kinda like this one, because a proven scoring presence could do wonders for the talented youngsters... As expected, Boston newcomer Loui Eriksson is lining up with Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand to start camp.. My most interesting note from a fantasy point, would be Marcus Foligno playing with Thomas Vanek and Cody Hodgson. If this line sticks during the regular season, Foligno becomes fantasy relevant. Way too early, though.. A few injuries to mention- Jaromir Jagr left Devil's practice due to "soreness". Hey, it's tough being 40+ in the NHL. Washington's Brook Laich is day to day with a hip flexor injury.
