O'Brien (lower body) wasn't on the ice for pregame warmups and looks set to miss Friday's game against the Devils, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
O'Brien first suffered the injury during Friday's morning skate, and although the Capitals were considering him a game-time decision, it doesn't look like he made enough progress over the afternoon for the medical staff to give him the go-ahead to play. Instead, Chris Brown, who was recalled from AHL Hershey earlier in the day, will fill in for O'Brien on the Capitals' fourth line.

O'Brien is a game-time decision for Friday's contest after suffering a lower-body injury in morning skate, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
O'Brien left Friday's morning skate early for what has now been confirmed as a lower-body injury. If he is unable to go, either Tom Wilson (if healthy) or the newly-recalled Chris Brown will likely dress in his place.

O'Brien left the morning skate early for an undisclosed reason, Mike Vogel of WashingtonCaps.com reports.
The Capitals recalled Chris Brown on Friday and placed Brooks Laich on the IR, so there may be a reactionary move coming for O'Brien. Until things are confirmed, O'Brien will likely have a late decision about his availability for Friday's game against the Devils.

O'Brien scored his first NHL goal in Sunday's loss to Vancouver.
Through eight games, the 20-year-old rookie has recorded a goal and an assist, to go with a plus-4 rating. Currently skating on the fourth line and seeing no power-play minutes, it will take time before O'Brien starts to post noteworthy offensive totals at the NHL level. There are too many forwards ahead of him on the Capitals' depth chart for him to currently make any major impact.

O'Brien will make his NHL debut on the Capitals' fourth-line for Thursday's contest against Montreal, Alex Prewitt of The Washington Post reports.
O'Brien, who was invited to the Capitals training camp on a professional tryout, won the spot after a solid preseason. The burly Halifax native will line up alongside Evgeny Kuznetsov and Chris Brown, but unless he takes another big step in his career very shortly, is likely to be sent back to AHL Hershey once Jay Beagle (upper body) is able to return to the lineup.
