Skating on a line with Trevor Lewis and Michael Amadio, Clifford helped set up a goal by each of his linemates in the Kings' season opener. That production came despite Clifford logging the least amount of playing time (7:26) of anyone in the LA lineup. He will likely remain in a bottom-six role for the Kings.

Clifford has 20 points for the first time in his career, as well as 86 PIM and 111 hits in 70 appearances this season.

The former only has one point (a goal) in the past month -- a span of 14 games -- and chances are his penalty from this game barely moved the needle in most fantasy settings. Clifford has 14 points (eight goals, six assists) to supplement 103 hits and 21 blocked shots over 62 games this season.

EDGE Analysis

Where exactly did this come from? After scoring eight points in 44 games, Clifford now has five in three contests. He's not suddenly morphing into a productive fantasy asset, and his value is limited to daily leagues if you're in need of a cheap dart to fill out a lineup. Even if he's hot, he's still not a great play in fantasy based on his long history as a defense-first player.

Clifford reached seven goals in a season for the third time with his early marker, but his team fell short in a 4-1 loss to Ottawa on Thursday.

EDGE Analysis

The fact that seven goals is a career high for Clifford tells you about all you need to know about him: he's in your lineup if your league counts hitting and penalty minutes, and he's not at all useful otherwise. As he had no hits and no PIMs, this performance didn't provide much help to fantasy owners.
