Labanc has already missed the club's previous eight contests and isn't expected back until late February, so his designation for injured reserve shouldn't come as a surprise. Even prior to getting hurt, the winger was bogged down in a nine-game goalless streak and has managed just six points to start the year.

Labanc will undergo surgery to repair his dislocated shoulder and is expected to be sidelined for a "couple" months, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.

The New York native has five points, 22 shots on net, 17 hits and a minus-2 rating through 12 contests overall.

Labanc has served his one-game ban and is eligible to play against Carolina on Monday.
