Compher initially had an assist on Jacob MacDonald's second-period goal, but that was switched to Andre Burakovsky. The 25-year-old Compher left no doubt when he got the puck to Pierre-Edouard Bellemare for the empty-net tally. Through 18 games, Compher has four points, 19 blocked shots, 15 hits and 15 PIM in a bottom-six role. He hasn't done enough to justify a fantasy roster spot.

Compher's second-period tally snapped a six-game goal drought for the center. In his previous three games, he had failed to record a shot on goal. One tally isn't going to instantly turn things around for the struggling 25-year-old, who has just three points in 16 appearances this season. He's added only 14 shots, 15 PIM, 14 hits and 17 blocked shots -- he's provided defense and toughness, but Compher has reached the 30-point mark in each of the last two seasons, so he's certainly capable of better scoring numbers.

Compher had two shots on goal, one hit, one blocked shot, and seven PIM over a season-high 18:48 of ice time in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Wild.

EDGE Analysis

Compher filled in for Nathan MacKinnon (lower body) on the Avalanche's top line and could continue in that role for as long as Colorado's perennial Hart Trophy candidate is out, which will be multiple games. Compher picked up his first five-minute fighting penalty of the season and was tagged with an unsportsmanlike conduct minor along with the major penalty, which led to Minnesota's lone goal. He stood up for defenseman Cale Makar, who took a borderline hit from the Wild's Kyle Rau. Colorado head coach Jared Bednar hated losing his top-line center for seven minutes but told Mike Chambers of the Denver Post he was okay with Compher's decision. "All day long," Bednar said when asked about Compher's actions. "I thought they (Minnesota) should have had the extra (penalty). I thought the hit (on Makar) was probably boarding or a charge. They don't call it. We get the extra." The two teams return to action Thursday.

Compher will center the top line Tuesday, replacing the injured Nathan MacKinnon (lower body), Kyle Frederickson of the Denver Post reports.

The Avalanche described MacKinnon as week-to-week, so Compher has a chance to make a splash with wingers Mikko Rantanen (10 points) and Gabriel Landeskog (eight points). Compher has one goal and one assist through 10 games, serving in a middle-six role with some power-play time.

Compher has added 10 hits and nine blocked shots while mostly working in a bottom-six role. Most fantasy managers won't need to pay attention to the 25-year-old given his poor scoring rate so far.

Compher served as the second-line center for Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Ducks. He had one hit and three blocked shots.

EDGE Analysis

Colorado head coach Jared Bednar swapped Compher and Nazem Kadri, but the lineup shuffle backfired. Compher lost a defensive zone faceoff to Adam Henrique that led to Jakob Silfverberg's goal to make it 1-0. Kadri was on the ice for two Anaheim goals and fell to minus-8 over six games. After recording a power-play assist in the season-opener, Compher has zero points and just two shots on goal over the ensuing five contests.

Compher had a power-play assist in Wednesday's 4-1 loss to the Blues.

EDGE Analysis

Compher set up the Avalanche's lone goal of the game, scored by Andre Burakovsky. The 25-year-old Compher topped the 30-point threshold in each of the last two seasons, although a 56-game campaign in 2020-21 could make that a tough feat to repeat. He'll be helped by seeing usage on the second power-play unit, and a deep Avalanche offense could give him deep-league fantasy value even on the third line.

Compher had an assist in Monday's 6-3 win over the Stars in Game 5.

Compher set up Nathan MacKinnon for the Avalanche's third of five first-period goals. The 25-year-old Compher hasn't found consistent offense in the postseason. He's at three goals, four helpers and 21 shots on goal through 13 appearances.

He tied the game at 3-3 with just 1:02 left in the game when he jammed the puck home after Nazem Kadri hit the crossbar. Compher is one of the team's PK men, but also saw a bit of time on the power play Saturday.
