PLAYOFF PRIME TODAY: STANLEY CUP FINAL PREVIEW - NEW YORK vs. LOS A... primepucks.com Tue 6/3/14 8:15 AM

LOS ANGELES vs. NEW YORK Must-Starts Los Angeles: Anze Kopitar, Marian Gaborik, Justin Williams, Jeff Carter, Drew Doughty, Jonathan Quick New York: Martin St. Louis, Rick Nash, Derek Stepan, Chris Kreider, Ryan McDonagh, Henrik Lundqvist Sleepers Los Angeles: Dustin Brown, Tyler Toffoli, Mike Richards, Alec Martinez, Jake Muzzin, Slava Voynov New York: Brad Richards, Mats Zuccarello, Derick Brassard, Carl Hagelin, Brian Boyle Notes: The NHL couldn't have asked for more. The league gets big market exposure as the New York Rangers go against the Los Angeles Kings to see who will get to party with Lord Stanley's Cup this summer.  The Rangers are the "feel good, underdog team" while the Kings return to the Finals for the second time in the past three years.  It will also be a contest of two of the elite goaltenders in the NHL as "King" Henrik Lundqvist will give it his best to become "King of the Kings" while Jonathan Quick hopes to regain some of that Conn Smythe magic he possessed just two short years ago and dim those lights on Broadway.  This matchup should be a "Battle Royale". Since it starts from the net out, let's begin with our net minders. There is no doubt that both goaltenders have come up big, winning 5 Game 7s between them this  playoff season, with Quick winning all 3 of his on the road.  Lundqvist's game 7 performance history was heralded early on in the playoffs but Quick's record is nothing to sneeze at.  The "King" actually has better metrics throughout this playoff run with a 2.03 GAA and a .928 SP compared to Quick's goals against average of  2.86 and .906 SP.  Both those go out the window as both are capable of going on a streak.  Perhaps those numbers can be explained more by the defensive corps in front of them. The Rangers defense of McDonagh, Dan Girardi, Marc Staal, Anton Stralman, Kevin Klein and John Moore contribute some on offense but their main focus is to provide support in front of their goaltender. New York's Top 6 combined to go 6-29-35 in 19 playoff games while the LA Kings' defense (Doughty, Muzzin, Voynov, Martinez, Matt Greene & Willie Mitchell) went 11-33-44 in 21 games so you can see the Kings' defense is counted on to be a significant contributor to the LA scoring. Of the 11 goals scored by the Kings' defense, 8 of those were scored in the Chicago series to go along with 13 assists.  Nearly half of the points scored by the Kings' defense in these playoffs were scored in that series.  It will be interesting to see...
