Quick will start his first game since November 12 after missing nearly eight weeks with a grade 2 groin strain. Before getting injured he was 10-5-0 with a 2.35 GAA and .905 SV%. He is expected to resume a full workload of starts as he works his way back into shape in the next month leading up to the Sochi Olympics. He will face the Canucks for the second time this season, in the first meeting he stopped 25 of 26 shots in a 5-1 win over November 9.

Goalie Start: Jonathan Quick (groin) and Martin Jones left the ice ... dailyfaceoff.com Sat 1/4/14 2:56 PM

Because Darryl Sutter does not disclose who his starter is, we will have to wait until pre-game warmups to see who leads the team onto the ice. Quick is believed to be ready to return to game action, but Sutter could choose to give him a few extra days of rest.

DAILY PRIME - DECEMBER 31, 2013: BACK-UPS TO THE FUTURE & SOME OLD ... primepucks.com Tue 12/31/13 8:20 AM

***NEW FEATURE*** We have added our 3 FANTASY STARS OF THE NIGHT to our Home Page.  Just look in the right margin under PRIME UPDATE.  We hope you enjoy! In a battle of the Titans, Chicago Blackhawks' Goalie Antti Raanta was able to stonewall the Los Angeles Kings 1-0. Martin Jones was nearly as perfect as he stopped 29 of 30 saves as Jones rebounded from his poor start last game out...Jones will, in all likelihood, be sent back to the AHL as Jonathan Quick is nearing a return and may even get into tonight's game versus Dallas, but more likely to play Thursday against St. Louis. Corey Crawford is also close to returning and resuming his No. 1 starter's role but Raanta's play of late should earn him more starts down the road....After what was a disastrous first part of the season, Ottawa Senators' G Craig Anderson seems to be turning his game around and not a moment too soon. Anderson has now won 3 in a row and if the Ottawa Senators want to make the playoffs and some noise, they will need Anderson to play at the highest level that he is capable of.  You may still be able to acquire the Ottawa goaltender on the cheap...It is quite obvious that the goaltending was pretty much non-existent in the Detroit-Nashville game as the Preds defeated the Red Wings 6-4.  Jimmy Howard returned from injury and only made 23 of 28 saves and his season's woes continue. Marek Mazanec wasn't much better stopping only 21 of 25 SOG. We'll give Howard a few games to get back into game shape to decide where his season is going, while the Predators await the return of elite goaltender Pekka Rinne from his hip infection....Philly G Steve Mason was the reason that the Flyers were able to squeak out a win in Vancouver last night stopping 41 of 44 SOG. Mason continues his rebound season and has played well ever since his arrival to Philadelphia at last year's trade deadline. More Fantasy Game Notes: If you haven't already, you might want to rush out and pick up Michael Raffl of the Philadelphia Flyers. All the rookie has done since his call up is go 2-9-11 points in 27 games but his recent play has improved as he is playing alongside red-hot Claude Giroux. Raffl has 10 points in the past 13 games and if he sticks should be able to gather some points but you may run into a little inconsistency from the rookie.   He had 2 assists in last night's game against the Canucks but went scoreless in three prior games...

Quick has been sidelined with a grade-2 groin strain since November 12 but should be back in the crease in the New Year. Quick's absence has been dealt with nicely with Ben Scrivens and Martin Jones playing extremely well. Since Quick went down the Kings are 15-4-4 which has allowed him to fully heal without any worry.

DAILY PRIME - DECEMBER 18, 2013: GRAB "JAKE" IF YOU CAN, ALL RANKIN... primepucks.com Wed 12/18/13 4:57 AM

One of Philadelphia's most enigmatic wingers is swiftly on the rise, as Jakub Voracek continues his strong play with two goals in the 5-2 win over Washington. While currently on a five-game point streak, the shifty forward has collected 5 goals and 2 assists, conjuring memories of his breakout season in '12-13. How quickly have fantasy owners forgotten that "Jake" flourished in Year 2 with the Flyers, basically scoring a point-per-game pace with 46 points in 48 games. Along with superstar Claude Giroux, the top-line duo floundered during the early portion of this season as the Flyers couldn't shoot a puck in the ocean, but the offense has come alive over the last month. The key to Voracek's fantasy resurgence and staying power is Giroux, who has been resembling his usual elite self with 8 points in 8 December games and 20 in the last 23 overall. It's safe to assume that the duo will resume to their high-scoring ways during the second half of '13-14, so try to pry away Voracek from an unassuming owner, using his current stat total as the ammunition. Acquiring Giroux will always prove difficult, but why not get the best next thing in "Jake"? If you have already prior to his hot streak, Bravo!! The Jones and Raanta Dilemma: In case you haven't noticed, but injuries to high-profile fantasy goalies have opened up the door for No.2's to become legit fantasy options in the interim. With Jonathan Quick out indefinitely due to a groin injury, Martin Jones has grabbed the spotlight in the King's crease with a 6-0 record, .082 GAA and .972 SP. After shutting out the Oilers 3-0 last night, Jones fantasy owners are hoping that Quick does not return 'quickly' (pardon the pun). The truth of the matter is that Quick will resume his starting goalie duties when he returns, but Jones' strong play (and Ben Scrivens too) have afforded the Kings the luxury of not rushing him back. Also, there will be a shorter leash if Quick struggles upon his return. As for Antti Raanta, the 24-year old has enjoyed a splendid run for Chicago, winning 7 of his 8 starts. Corey Crawford does seem closer to returning than Quick, making progress in his recovery and probably resuming skating in a few days. He is at least a couple of weeks away, so enjoy the Raanta ride while you can. Both back-ups are living the high life now, but make sure you have contigency plans in goal when their time is up. Injury: Quick (groin) worked out on ice today and faced some shots ... dailyfaceoff.com Tue 12/17/13 7:56 PM

Quick is still expected to miss at least another week, but putting the gear back on and taking shots is a definite positive for Quick. The Kings are in a great spot, where they will not need to rush him back because of the way Martin Jones and Ben Scrivens are playing right now. Monitor Quick's status as Christmas draws near.

ADD'EM: LOOK TO THE STARS primepucks.com Sun 12/15/13 7:06 PM

Valeri Nichuskin- Dallas Stars, RW (Owned in 11.5% of ESPN leagues) The 18-year old Russian has turned many heads as a rookie, collecting 6 points (2G/4A) in the last 5 games. Playing on the top line with Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn has given him more opportunity to showcase his immense talent, even though his power-play time has been limited. He will endure his share of ups and downs in Year 1, but he should make a strong push for the Calder Trophy. Serious keeper league upside. Martin Jones- Los Angeles Kings, G (Owned in 78.5% of ESPN leagues) The 23-year old goalie has taken the NHL by storm with incredible numbers in relief of an injured Jonathan Quick. Pushing aside Ben Scrivens for the temporary King's starting gig, he has gone 5-0-0 with a .99 GAA and .967 SP. Safe to say, he needs to be owned in your league, but chances are that he might be gone by the time you read this. Heck, it's worth a shot! Ilya Bryzgalov- Edmonton Oilers, G (Owned in 16.9% of ESPN leagues) After being out since suffering a concussion on December 1, the beleaguered net-minder is set to start tonight for Edmonton against Anaheim. He was very effective in limited duty prior to the injury, going 1-1 with a 2.11 GAA and a .939 SP. The Oiler defense continues to struggle, so temper your expectations on his potential fantasy value. Having said all that, maybe he can provide them a spark in the goal and the young guns get hot. He could be a lower-tier 2nd goalie option, so he is worth a look. Roman Josi- Nashville Predators, D (Owned in 56.5% of ESPN leagues) Fantasy owners were hoping for the young defenseman to offensively break out this season, but a concussion suffered at the hands of Steve Downie derailed his "coming out" party. After a slow start to his third campaign, the Swiss defender has turned it around lately with 2 goals and 3 assists in the last 4 games. Fully recovered from injury, Josi has been promoted to Nashville's top pairing with Shea Weber both at even-strength and on the power play. Expect his numbers to keep rising, as the youngster makes a move up the fantasy charts. Sergei Gonchar- Dallas Stars, D (Owned in 25.6% of ESPN leagues) After many years of being one of the elite offensive defensemen in the NHL, the 39-year old veteran looked washed up during the first quarter of his debut season with Dallas, where he collected just 5 points in the first 28 games. However, his four-point explosion on Saturday was his best effort while donning a ...
